Q: Is this building set compatible with the wood tool work bench? Would screws etc fit in the holes already drilled in work table/bench?

Hi! Since our various construction sets were designed by different people, at different times, and made in different places, they are not compatible. We are working to have them coordinate and hope they will in the future. I hope you enjoy hours of constructive fun with Melissa & Doug!

Q: Is this set compatible with the set that comes with the work bench?

I have this set and the small tool box and all of the parts are interchangeable. Not sure if that helps answer about the work bench.

Q: Do the cubes actually have threads so the kiddo actually has to screw them in rather than just a hole they can push them through?

Yes they are threaded so you have to screw them together... great addition to the tool box set

Q: How small are the smallest pieces? I am wondering if it would be okay for an 18 month old.

The pieces are prettying big, but suggested age on the product itself is 4+. The connector pieces (the plain wood pieces with the three or four holes in each) would probably be the most possible choking hazards - they look like thick tongue depressors with holes in them - probably pretty easy to choke on them if put in the mouth.

Very Nice Kit For My Kids!

I enjoyed playing with this kit with my 5-year old. It is good to know that it is safe. It has big parts too, so I am less worried about his 2-year old sister putting it in her mouth. I still have to be watching, but it's just that piece of mind. The wood is well finished, no splinters. I wish they made a bigger kit! This beats a lego for me, and I will gladly pay for it.
