Chops/dices potatoes super easily!
If you want diced potatoes, this is your tool! Cut the potatoes into segments and place them in this tool and push close - diced potatoes! The bin holds about three small/medium potatoes worth of dice. It'll do onions also, but onions are a bit mushier, and the tool needs to be cleaned out every so often. I haven't tried any other foods...

There IS a manual, and chopped onion is just less than 1/2" cubes
I bought this for chopping onion, and the cut pieces are just less than 1/2" cubes. Some of the pieces were bigger and needed to be cut, but it sure beats cutting the whole onion with a knife, while my eyes burn painfully and my nose runs. Thank you to everyone who wrote reviews, because they were extremely valuable. I think I can address all the shortcomings. I saw it recommended in Consumer Reports, but the reviews here were very concerning. There really IS a two-page manual [https://www.williams-sonoma.com/netstorage/pdf/OXO-Vegetable-Chopper-87322-Assembly-Instructions-User-Manual.pdf] which does not come with the item but I found necessary.Yes, my purple grid did fall out until I turned it 90 degrees (as suggested in one of the reviews) and then it stayed in. Yes, it does take some effort to push down quickly and firmly with both hands on the black area ("soft touch point") on the top. It made a sharp popping noise, but not audible in the next room, and a couple pieces did jump out the back, which is open so the contents can be poured out. So cover the back. The manual shows how to cut items to be chopped. For onions, cut in half and place one half on the cutting area with cut side down, chopping one half at a time.It comes apart into three pieces. I'm one of the least mechanical people who ever lived, and I never would have figured it out. Remove the lid (top) by lifting up. Push on the 3 dots under the opening on the back side to release the clear container from the cutting grid. All 3 pieces can go on the top rack of the dishwasher. Remove the purple grid first, which helps remove food from between the plastic teeth on the top. I'm going to wash the purple grid by hand.I've covered everything in the "manual" but I'm a visual person and like to see the pictures. I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars because the manual doesn't come with it, and because the chopped onion pieces are a bit on the big side, and some still needed to be cut with a knife. I have no intention of cutting anything other than onions with it, so can't comment on how it might handle other foods, although the manual says it's not for meat or cheese.

Not a good choice
I bought this based on a Consumer reports recommendation, but I was misled. I was concerned when there were absolutely no instructions included. The label in the lid saying "Press here to snap purple grid into place" is confusing since pressing there will do nothing, but it did make me curious about removing the grid. It is a cleaning aid. However, after removing and replacing the grid, the first time I closed the device the plastic grid fell off and was cut up by the blades. It will now no longer stay in place as designed, although another reviewer showed a photo of putting it in sideways, which does help, though more difficult to remove. The container is small, so it must be emptied frequently so it does not overflow out the back. "Wet" items, such as tomatoes and other juicy items, stick to it and do not simply pour out. In fact, my experience with tomatoes is not good, since they also get stuck in the blades, or run down the sloped front of the device onto the counter. I could not find out how to take the body of the device apart for cleaning, until I saw another user's video. In short, I would not buy this again. See photos for illustration of some of these issues.

Disappointed!!!
Either I didn’t get all the pieces, or this product is a huge disappointment. While it does cut - there is only 1 size - and it’s more a chunk than a dice. It didn’t even come with directions. First time I have been disappointed with an OXO product
