This one of the better products for your tailgate. It was very easy to install and once complete the tailgate was very easy to open and close. the tailgate comes down slowly without that big bang when it opens. Closing was made easier also. I would recommend this product if you want a really good tailgate dampener.

This tailgate assist piston is great. It is low cost, east to install, and functions very well. The first time I opened the tailgate after installing it I was pleasantly surprised with how awesome it was for my tailgate not to just plop open. Buy this!

99.9% perfect , it fit perfect and easy to put on the only thing I don’t like is you can here the oil flowing thought it when it’s moving .

The media could not be loaded. Got a used truck that did not have any soft opening for the tailgate so it was heavy and constantly slammed. Bought this tailgate assist after looking at some videos to find a remedy and I can truly say that it is a great product. It took around 15 minutes to install, you need to have some extra bits to get it done, but it wasn't that hard. It feels nice and sturdy so only time will tell if it will hold up but now anyone can open my tailgate without fear of it slamming down!

Man. If you have a truck, and hate the tailgate slam, get this thing. It's so easy to install. Follow the instructions. Feels solid, and looks like a factory part. Using my cordless impact driver, a 50 torx socket, a long 10mm socket, and a 5mm hex socket made the installation a breeze. You will also want a really small screwdriver to pry back on the clips on the strut to slide them onto the balls easier. One tricky part is the bracket that goes on the tailgate. If you pull both bolts out accidentally, you'll probably end up with a headache, because there is another plate inside the tailgate. I noticed as I loosened the second bolt, the plate got real loose. And to get that bolt out far enough to slip the bracket around it, made me nervous. So I put the first bolt (the new one), through the bracket and into the tailgate, then loosened the second bolt enough to put the bracket around it. This avoided what could potentially have been a major annoyance. I'm not positive that the inner plate would have fallen down into the tailgate, but I didn't want to find out. And I'm betting you don't want to either. I love this thing. It's smooth and slow, and I don't have to worry about slamming the tailgate. Makes it feel like a premium feature! I should have put this on all of my previous trucks.

The media could not be loaded. I gave this 5 stars because the product works well, new anyway. I really do not overuse my tailgate so this should last a long time for my truck (2016 F-150). The half star I would deduct because the T50 Torx wrench they send is worthless, unless you want to bust your knuckles and strip the bolt on your truck. Also, the instructional video, although not that big of a deal, skips the part of putting the upper part on the bed of your truck.This assist works pretty darned good and eases your tailgate down. I used another reviewer’s suggestion and bought a can of plasti-dip and coated the two brackets the day before I installed them, giving the coating plenty of time to cure. I bought the matching color to my truck and it made them blend in nicely. Fortunately, I live not far from a NAPA (I live in a smaller rural town) and went there and bought a T50 drive socket for almost $8 after almost skinning up my knuckles and stripping the bolt on my truck. The tool provided is useless. Even the video cuts away and then back in when the guy on the video starts to unsuccessfully use the tool provided (and then he finishes using the tool when it cuts back). I’m guessing that he used a driver socket too during the cutaway. I believe the product would be worth an additional $3 to $5 if they would just include a decent drive socket instead of costing me another 20 minutes and gasoline to go to the parts store. Other than this, the install was not too bad and I am not very handy.
