Great concept but I think the artwork is too dark and crowded for a child
I was looking for a board book about food and thought what a wonderful concept this book is - about buying the food by going to the market, afterwards the meal. Personally, I think it's great for children to learn about food in different ways, including books. Great concept. But at least for us, that's all the good we have to say about it.First of all, our little one really didn't care for it - immediately after opening it, no matter which page, she immediately slapped it away and she only does that when she is not interested in something. With a book, we never had that before - slapping it away after a couple pages yes, but never immediately slapping it away after opening.Of course I can't say for sure what she didn't like about it but here are the reasons I don't like it. On one hand the text is very generic, nothing special (due to one reviewer's comment how their little one says "to the market" because of the book, I somehow expected more, maybe something catchy or at least a rhythmic read). But my main issue is the art work - yes, it might be artful like some reviewers write here but personally, I think it's unsuitable for children. The cover gives only a rough idea about how abstract the graphics will be inside the book but in fact it's far worse inside - some food items we couldn't even identify. Another thing that is really bothersome to me is how extremely dark it is - that's probably what bothered me most. Lastly, and that is likely what our little one didn't like, it is very crowded and not in a good way (she often wants things to stop when there is too much happening). There is just too much going on (and not in a good way as in discovering new details every time), it's dark intense shapes everywhere, I feel overstimulated looking at it.Two stars is for how fast and easy the return was - but no, I wouldn't recommend this book.

Very short
You must be kidding! I wish I could return it! Very little food vocabulary and pictures are top bright with very similar colors!

It has nice illustrations for a preschooler
This is cute, though for babies and toddlers. It has nice illustrations for a preschooler, though is such a fast read that I really do wish there was a nice farmer's market book for preschoolers that was a longer read.

Storytelling for meals from start to finish
My son loves what he calls his "to market, to market" book. Loved how the storytelling teaches children the whole process, from selection to digging in, and get's the whole family involved in food.
