MaxScan VAG Diagnostic Scanner
I own a 2001 Passat, November 2011 the display on the dash read out: STOP... ABS FAILURE! This freaked out my wife so we took it in to the dealer and they looked into it. They reset the fault and wiggled a few connectors to the tune of $150.00. The scan alone was the first $100.00. My assumption is that they already knew what the problem was before they even plugged it in as the new part alone through them was $900.00. The rebuilder I sent my part to charged $125.00 to rebuild my original with heavier duty components. After I installed it I mentioned the problem to a buddy who owns a repair shop, he offered me his code reader to reset the fault that reoccurred when I had come home from the dealer visit. His reader worked great and as it would turn out happens to be this very one. If you own a VW or Audi product, this Reader will pay for itself twice the first time you use it. The VAG (volkswagen audi group) reader is the only way to go. It reads more systems than the generic code readers available and has the added benefit of reading other manufacturers codes. Instrument is a hard plastic similar to that of a multi meter and very rugged, four button control keeps it simple. For $54.00 I'm buying one now so I don't have to borrow. Car has 111K on the odometer, I'm pretty confident I'll have use for it again. After all, next time I need it, I'll save $50.00 right off the top for the 1st read and another $100.00 for the final reset after the repair. No Brainer!

Great. 2007 VW Rabbit.
This was a great buy. Have a 2007 VW rabbit. The air bag light was on because of a bad clock spring. Stealership wanted 600 to repair. I got the part and did the job easily in 15 mins for $100. But the airbag light would not go off. Stealer wanted $100 bucks to reset it. The local Auto Zone would not do it saying they did not have a VAG unit. hum.. The nearest shade tree mechanic wanted $50 to reset the light. I got this ... it reset the light so quick and easy it was stupid. So I saved a total of 450 over having the setalership do the repair. This is a great tool. Mine had the latest software/firmware update, so there was no need to update it over the web. (the ad was unclear, but it comes with a USB cable to upgrade it over the web.) If you have a VW ... BUY!It came with a really nice zipper bag. It had plenty of room for the unit cables, and instruction manual. I also printed out a list of (generic/jeep) CAM codes for my dad's jeep and put that in the case. Ya never know.It looks and feels like a good tool. If you own a VW and are not afraid of turning a wrench it is a must have item. It will not do some of the funky stuff that I understand a full VAG-CAM on a laptop will do like change the car's computer settings for things like DLR's etc, but for reading and clearing codes/ oil change intervals, and common stuff like that, this is a must have tool.

Worked perfect on MK4 2003 VW Golf.........Very Very Happy!!!
Working on a used 2003 VW Golf 2.0 w/ automatic transmission. This unit quickly pulled up the codes (numbers only) for the engine, transmission, airbags, and instrument cluster. I wrote them all down and then erased them all. Worked Perfectly!I looked up all the codes online, and even found possible causes/repair suggestions. Some codes I knew that I had set myself (ran it with the MAF disconnected... ran it with the speed sensor disconnected, etc...), others were in the car when I bought it so I had no idea. Seller told me it needed an O2 sensor. Turns out it doesn't need any parts at all! It also helped me diagnose my intermittent fuel gauge problem. An airbag code was set when the battery went bad (low voltage warning). It erased every code and no codes have returned. Its nice to have the lights on the dash no on.It also read my 2009 Nissan Altima and 2011 Toyota Tundra using the OBDII option on the main menu. They have no codes (no CEL on), but it did establish a link and allowed me check. it also allowed me the option to erase these codes even though none were present.Software was very intuitive and I could maneuver through the menus in the reader within minutes of plugging it in. I never needed to crack open the book or look online for help. The book looks very basic anyway.Cons: For $39 bucks, there really are no cons as this thing paid for itself within 5 minutes of me taking it out of the box. But... It only resets oil/service lights on vehicles older than 2000 and therefore this feature was not compatible with the 2003 Golf. And i found no option to read live data when the engine is running. It only reads and erases codes. But like I said, for $39 I could not possibly be happier!!
