A few years ago I accidentally agreed to teach a weaving and fiber arts after-school club at one of the buildings where I taught preschool (I was definitely not sober when I replied to the office manager's 4th email asking staff to volunteer their after-school club ideas and I hadn't learned not to check work emails on the weekends yet). I woke up the next morning with a feeling of panic and dread because now I had to plan nine "fiber arts" sessions and I only had two ideas. It took a lot of trial and error, and overcomplicated cardboard looms with chopsticks glued on to raise the warp away from the board, and chaos, and kids cutting their pieces of yarn from the middle of the skein, and "weaving is boring," but eventually we found our groove and wet-felting day was "the best day" of one student's life, because the wool smelled just like his uncle's barn. Weaving in the round, using Chinet paper plates was the most popular thing we did, and it should've been the first project instead of the last. What I'm trying to say is that I struggled to teach weaving and fiber arts to a group of kids, and it was messy and chaotic, but we got through it somehow and I haven't volunteered to teach it since, even though it was a lot of fun. This book makes me want to run back to that building and do it again, only better this time because there are INSTRUCTIONS! and helpful ADVICE! and ways of weaving I'd never thought to do before, and gorgeous little hand-stitched pillow projects, and finger knitting and spool knitting and Ojos de Dias (PRO TIP: If your students come with parents attached, get the parents making God's Eyes and they will stay busy all day). This book is amazing and so inspiring. Get one and make stuff!

Love Cassie Stephens and her wealth of knowledge in the art room. She's fun and economical and unafraid to share great ideas, tips, tricks, and all the in-betweens. This book is a good little resource for adding fiber projects to the art classroom!

How did anyone write a good review for this book? So disappointed. Not even a child would be happy with the end result of any of these half hearted projects. Even the pom-poms were an inferior way of making pom-poms. There really should be a way of seeing inside these books before buying! Truly pathetic.
