Handy Toolbox Addition for Dropped Fasteners
I gave this a five star rating because it works as advertised, which is a three to four inch depth, within a rather small radius, giving a fairly loud audible alert when something is detected. I ordered it along with a full-sized professional type detector, thinking I would keep the small 9 inch unit in my carry-around tool kit, to find fasteners I dropped in the grass. As it turns out, it does an excellent job at that, since although well-hidden in the grass, the nut, bolt or screw is on the surface. I actually tried to find a ¼-20 nut I dropped while looking the other way, and recovered it in less than a minute. I wish I had all the minutes I spent looking for a dark-colored fastener in 4 inch grass because I was too lazy to put down a tarp before commencing work, and then driving to the hardware because I never found the fastener.

Mostly worthless
You certainly aren’t going to have a lot of practical use for this. The range is so short you practically have to touch it to the metal to detect it.It serves its purpose for what I bought it for, finding small nails, screws, nuts and bolts when I drop them on my garage floor, they get camouflaged into the speckle pattern in my concrete floor sealer. Rather than trying to look and feel all over the floor I can just easily wave this around. Also came in handy when my riding mower drive belt broke in the back of my property and I had to repair it in the grass back there. One of the little clips went flying and otherwise would have been lost forever in the grass, this saved me the hour of my time and $20 in diesel it would have taken me to run into town and get another retainer clip. A lot cheaper, a lot easier to use and takes up a lot less space than an actual full size metal detector, and for my needs worked just as well and better than dragging a magnet around, especially for aluminum or stainless steel that the magnet won’t find.

It works. Good price but needs better battery.
The battery was already installed but dead. Appears to work with a fresh battery. Tried to find stud screws and nails. No longer beeps. Have not used outside. will return.

Dmyond Metal Detector Pinpointer - accurate, easy to operate and handle.
The media could not be loaded. I got this to detect nails after disassembling wood pallets because I want to avoid damaging my miter saw when I cut the planks of wood to size. Very handy and accurate. Easy to operate. So much better than having to look through the wood carefully before cutting them on my saw and ruining the blade. The only warning I have is that It does depend on how big the nail, or piece of metal is compared to the thickness of material you are scanning. So a staple will require the detector to be in real close proximity as opposed to a large nail, which it will detect immediately.Basically, the smaller the piece of metal the closer the detector needs to be to detect it, but in the same respects a very large piece of metal or even a strong magnet will set this off if it's close enough. I was scanning a piece of wood I had standing up and as I went down to the ground this went off. It turns out my shop floor has rod iron inside it and this picked it up when I was close to the ground. There was actually nothing in the wood.So be careful of false readings when scanning something. It might go off just because you're near large metal objects. So make sure to scan in an area where there are no magnets or large metal structures. Overall very happy with this item!
