Bubble Magus QQ1 Hang-On Nano Protein Skimmer

I wanted to wait a couple weeks before reviewing this. That patience issue! After two weeks of clear water in the cup it finally kicked in. Nice coating inside the riser column. Nice tea/coffee colored skim mate. Running it on a 10 gallon Water Box cube. Saltwater with 4 small fish, 3 small corals, a cleanup crew of crabs and snails.Pros:1. Plug and play. Really simple to install, just read the priming instructions!2. Fits in the middle chamber of the Water Box 10 cube!3. Overflow tube from the collection cup back into the tank provides a nice safety measure, especially in the first couple weeks of break in when the cup quickly fills with clear water. But.....see below.4. Pretty quiet in the beginning, then started getting louder, and then at break in it got really quiet!Cons:1. It does leak some micro bubbles but because it's in the back chamber they never get into the tank.2. The over flow tube is great but a little short. During break in the cup fills quickly. If you have it raised to where the over flow tube is out of the socket it defeats the purpose. Right now, to get good skim mate, I have it just barely in its socket. May have to get some tubing.Overall this works great. I researched a lot of skimmers and glad I chose this one!

Sad last update: after a couple of weeks of use while everything seemed to be going well, either the pump or the venturi started to malfunction to the point where it gradually stops to produce bubbles. Will probably require maintenance every other week to stay in top shape. Never had this issue with any other skimmer which just requires change of the collection cup. Won't be able to deal with the hassle of cleaning out the pump every week. Returning! =(Worked perfectly for my 3-gallon nano with baby seahorses. Had to protect the intake with coarse media to prevent the seahorses from getting sucked in. If you have 2 cents of brain you can figure out how to prime this thing through the air tube, because it won't prime by itself; no problem, quickly primed. The only cons, It's UGLY and ONLY works for NON rimmed tanks. However, was the only application in the ENTIRE market that fit my desktop nano right off the box into my office desk without any major pain. This is what you need when you wish you had space for a sump but you simply don't. WORKS!UPDATE! so after the skimmer settled in about a week, it started to rattle. The noise originates from the pump hitting the back wall, as it rests in close quarters. Simple fixed it with a thin piece of electrical tape/rubber inbetween the pump and the reservoir case as insulation. Silent again!

I bought this skimmer from Saltwater Aquarium and well, when I received it, it had a micro pin hole that slowly leaked water, I tried contacting Saltwater via phone twice, left messages with their answering service and nothing, after waiting for a week and fixing the skimmer with aquarium safe silicone and epoxy glue, which is holding like a champ by the way, I decided to email them and low and behold, they replied, I couldn't return the product anymore for I Mickey moused it so they offered me a reasonable refund, I accepted and I couldn't be happier now. The skimmer is amazing, 4 stars due to the little issue, no biggie, but 5 stars to the customer service and if the skimmer would of been perfect from the getgo, it too would be 5 stars. Would recommend this Skimmer and would definitely recommend purchasing from Saltwater Aquariums, they do keep me happy. 😎🕺🏻😎

It took a few days to break in but ever since it did it’s been skimming up a storm! Not noisy but it is the loudest piece of equipment on my setup so when i’m standing right next to the tank I can hear it. Maybe not ideal on a tank right next to your bed, my tank is near the kitchen so white noise drowns it out.

3.5 stars is a perfect score for this product. It does work and well but. Braking it in takes ages, the cover fits like crap, it requires regular bi weekly maintenance or the hose ports gets clogged with build up. It sounds like I'm making coffee 24/7.So if you don't like to tinker, this isn't the product for you.Works well but bad design

I have a full size skimmer on my large tank that does an amazing job, and thought it would be great to add this bubble magus HOB skimmer to the 35 gallon setup I have for a quarantine tank, except it is just an expensive toy that does not work. I have run it for 3 months+ and the only thing collecting in the cup is condensation that builds up on the underside of the lid. There are bubbles, but they aren't enough to foam fractionate the water by a long shot. Unfortunately, giving this thing too long a chance to work probably means I can't return it. Avoid.

Puts to many micro bubbles into the tank. I ran it for almost a month and it would not skim properly and very difficult to get to adjust properly

I can not say enough .. have used a couple of these inside and hang on back and this by far is better than anyone of em out together, it really does work and is quiet after week or so needs to be broken in, that's all more bubbles will appear as it starts to work as it should .Does work and clear up water fast , collection cup holds alot and adjusts bubbles by moving up and down in tube .. get this if your looking for protein skimmer no watse time looking for others .. alot more expensive and possibly to big . Great for small tanks 40 and down
