Update 7/22 We have used this in a couple power outages and it works great.. not much to change my opinion below. It isnt bright but it's small and that was expected. Works just fine though and I still feel is is comparatively a quality product against others available. Its more expensive now though. listed at 49 dollars where I got it for 35 a couple years or so ago.Just got this. It seems to be a bit better quality than the cheap tin lanterns. It is a small lamp but I like it. The construction is solid and the handle that can be hung off a screw in the wall to use it there is a really nice feature. We purchased the brass model and it is pretty and shiny in that new brass kind of way.We purchased just one to replace a larger glass oil lamp that the base broke. I don't see the base on this ever breaking like that. The downside comparatively is that the wick is half the width and the flame is therefore smaller and dimmer than the old lamp. We just purchased the one lamp to see what it was like before purchasing more for the price. I think we will pick up one or two more of them though. For emergency's these are easier to store but seem like they will work well to give dim light to allow you to get around the house when the power dies.This is half the size of a what I would consider a standard oil lamp. Compared to the one that broke it is 1/4 the diameter and 1/3 to 1/2 the height. It probably produces 1/3 the light. The upside is that it will live on the wall instead of the counter and can be used there also. We will replace our other larger oil lamps that live on a counter or table in the house with these mounted on walls. Just unclutters house. The larger ones will be stored in a shed until we need more than light for a few minutes or hours due to a short power outage. At that point we will drag out the large oil lamps and coleman lanterns that actually put out a large amount of light.

These are absolutely beautiful, and I'm bummed that I cannot buy more? What is up with that, Amazon? I want to gift these to family!

All components are very well made with fit and finish being excellent. You can find less expensive lanterns but they will not be near this quality. Even the "fingers" holding on the heavy duty glass globe work perfectly every time; not something you see in less expensive lanterns.

Nice lamp. Does not leak and is bright enough for the purpose bought.

The wick does not burn correctly, the knob slips as its spurs are far too short, and the flame it does produce is dull as anything, have tried all different fuels, wicks, to no avail. I have bought other lamps from this company, but this one is a big loser.Edit: Ok after talking to the company the oil I used in their mini lamps may not work well in the 1/2 inch wick lamps. They sent me a replacement for the defective burner/spur, and when I bought their recommended ultra pure oil, it seems to work just fine. I thank the company for standing by their products and providing pretty painless support.

So far, exactly what I wanted for the price.This lamp is very adaptable: hang on wall, set on table or hold in hand. Also, holds a lot of oil. Perfect for the power outages we always seems to get in our area. We have cats, so these will be stored on the wall, out of the way, and ready to use when needed.Caution: the glass chimney is very fragile. One simply fell over on the table while lighting, and broke. I wish these were a tad bit stronger. Easy to replace, though.

I absolutely love this lantern. Quality appears high. The color is beautiful. I bought this to ensure some basic light during New England ice storms.
