This Author got exposed as a FRAUD.
Google this guy's name. He got exposed for rigging the numbers in many of his tests. He's basically on desk duty at Cornell until he retires (see P-Hacking).As for the book instelf:Nothing new here, just move along. Same old calories in calories out. It's basically telling you to hide your candy and junk food... Well DUH!

More like mindless writing
I had to stop reading this book halfway through. I got tired of the author mentioning his lab where he conducts studies every other page. Then there was the ‘bulk’ or filler info of we use larger plates, fast music makes us eat more, etc. we over eat for two reasons: psychological and biological. It doesn’t require a 200 page book.

A good read, but nothing groundbreaking
There are a lot of books out there about changing habits, improving your life and restructuring things so that you'll be able to control your impulses and urges better. I liked Wansink's style of writing, his anecdotes and the numerous studies that he's done. He is pretty much the definitive expert on consumer behavior, and a lot of books ("Power of Habit", "Switch", "Willpower", etc.) make references to his work. There's nothing terribly new, although I think this guy was probably the originator of a lot of the progression towards self-help and changing your life books. His stories are quite interesting, but I think it's still not quite so clear how you would go about putting his ideas into practice.Wansink suggests that we make small changes into our lives, a 100-200 calorie reduction from our diet so that we gradually lose weight without even knowing it. The problem with that is that often 100-200 calories will pop up to take place of the eliminated calorie threat. It's like the Lernaean Hydra--cut off one head and more temptations come in.I would recommend this book as good general reading, but don't expect it to change your life.

Think About Your Food, So You Don't Have to Think About Your Food
In this highly engaging book, Brian Wansink writes about why we eat what we eat. Often it is not a conscious decision, even when it seems so. Instead, we are driven by habits and behaviors. Wansink cites scientific research, but that then makes it understable through the use of simple lists and anecdotes. What he helps us to do is to change our eating style to eat less and more healthy food. It is not about dieting, but changing our mindset towards food. It requires a period of mindfulness to readjust our habits, but then we move into a Mindless Eating that is better for us.

Author engages in shoddy research "analysis"
The author has had several studies retracted and corrected for poor data analysis. Shame, because the book was a fun read and made me feel quite optimistic. The book is best read as a humorous fiction, not a factual representation of real findings.

Hidden Agendas from fast-food marketing
Mindless Eating is a fantastic book, after reading it I felt enlightened and better clued in to the human mind as it relates to common dietary behaviors and behavior change. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Brian Wansink’s approach to writing Mindless Eating, his emphasis on mindless behaviors affects everyone and are hidden all around our daily lives. I’m definitely more aware of the hidden agendas from fast-food marketing as well as ideas like food conditioning and the fascinating psychology of comfort foods. Personally in our peer-coaching sessions I’ve determined to change my eating habits and to eat more than one meal a day. Reading chapter 7 on mood and comfort foods made me realize that I eat better quantities of food when I’m in a good mood – also the quality of food is much better than when I’m in a down or depressive mood. I know that I let life distract me from eating regularly, I’ve been doing well at changing my dietary behavior and now that I understand the psychology and science behind my desired change. I know that long-term behavior and lifestyle change is achieved through my mental state of mind and disposition.

Why I eat the way I do
I just finished reading this book. It was recommended on a blog ( Simple-Nourished Living) and I am so glad that it was. The book is very easy to read, it is entertaining while being very informative. It have me a lot to think about, and explained behavior in terms that most people won't have any problems understanding. I will probably read it a couple of more times. I definitely will tell my weight watcher friends about it

A book that makes you think
A fast read. Written for the general public, a book that would benefit everyone whether or not weight loss is the goal. The author explains why people eat the way they do habitually, through external cues, etc. Can aid in eating healthy.

Sensible read!
I bought this book for my sister after reading good reviews about it, so I asked her of her opinion. She told me that she related a lot with the contents. As she read it was "Oh I do that!" "And that!" "Oh and that!".To those that dont eat mindlessly, parts of it might seem obvious but to those that do, they assume everyone eats like that and dont put it down to the reason they are so overweight! She feels its been a great eye-opener and not only tells you what it is your (probably) doing wrong, but what you can do about it.Whether you do or not, is down to you! After all, its a book, not a magic wand!! :)

Entertaining, surprising, and very useful indeed.
This is a book written by a food research scientist, which has some really useful insights into how we eat without really thinking about it at all. Not only is it useful, it is funny, easy to read and entertaining all the way through. It got me thinking about why I eat (and drink)the way I do, the cues through each day which lead me to the cupboard. The author suggests that there is a margin of "mindless" eating, which is how most of us gain weight (slowly and without realising) and the same can be used to our advantage to lose weight in the same way. A fantastic book for anyone concerned about their weight, and also for those trying to help others with their eating difficulties. There is also a helpful website leading on from the book (read the book first).

Techniques that work
It contains a lot of techniques that actually work. Some of them seem amazingly simple such as use a smaller plate, some of them will be of things that you hadn't really thought of.I have implemented several of them in my own life and they are making a difference. There is evidence behind everything in the book as well.I did have a quick look at his website and he does seem to have lots of somewhat pointless items for sale. Hopefully he isn't turning into a "diet guru"If you stick to the book though you should learn a lot.

Serious science but an entertaining read
Whilst we all know how much we should eat, this book explains how we easily we lose control of what we actually consume. It's full of interesting experiments with jumbo buckets of stale popcorn, bottomless soup bowls and cheap wine (with expensive labels) that demonstrate the different factors that influence our daily eating decisions. Each chapter contains useful tips, and following really can help you lose weight - or at least identify your danger scenarios when you are likely to overeat.

Great Book. Loved It!
This is just such a GREAT book about when, how and why we overeat. Some great case studies from covert experiments and sensible science. I loved it. Thought provoking and fun.
