Fresh clean air
Very effective air washer / humidifier at a reasonable price.Wanted this mainly for the humidifier properties and was specifically looking for an evaporative humidifier rather than an ultrasonic one. Ultrasonic humidifiers tend to pump particles of impurities / minerals that are in the water into the air (unless you use expensive de-mineralised water) which not only leave a white deposit on your furniture but also are not great to breathe in. This being an evaporative humidifies doesn't do that and can be used with tap water.Using this in the bedroom has largely helped dry and chapped skin particularly in the winter months and also cleans / washes the air by sucking the air in, dust and all, and the rotating wheel drags it all to the bottom of the tank leaving noticeably fresher air. Running on low is reasonably quite and hasn't disturbed my sleep. For the cleaning I just rinse it out under the shower every two weeks and give it a quick wipe. Once or twice a year you need to give it a thorough clean with the Venta cleaner, which is available from Amazon, depending on how much use it gets. This is easily done by just adding to the water and leaving it running on low for a couple of hours (in a well ventilated area), then a rinse and wipe. I've only had to do this once so far in the year I've had the machine and haven't had any issues with limescale or gunk build up as I always use the hygiene additive which helps keep it clean. Both the hygiene additive and machine cleaner are available from Amazon and I recommend this machine if you're looking for a humidifier or air washer.

a marvel for the piano
We have recently installed a piano into the big living room which we thought wouldn't have any humidity issues to suit 40% range. however, this years cold weather has proven that wrong. even the room temperature is regulated very stable as a new house does, humidity often drops to 35% or even below even when temperature in the room is around 20. We decided it is time to have a machine control it. We did some research around musical instrument blogs and sites and came across this machine. We bought the machine as well as a socket control that controls the machine when humidity in the room falls out of the desired range. Well the result is magical! We have 2 other hygrometer monitoring different part of that room (around 38sqm) and it is very even and stable. If one has some major musical instrument at home, this is definitely a small portion that is worth spending.

Very effective
Having tried a cool mist humidifier which proved very difficult to keep clean (mould growth in the nooks and crannies) and realising everything in the tap water is put into the mist decided to move to an evaporative humidifier. The Venta works simply and very effectively. Having only found it necessary to run it on the lowest speed, it is effectively almost silent. The rate of evaporation is quite impressive. When the water level drops to the minimum it switches off reliably and then takes approximately 10 pints to refill to maximum. Located close to a wood stove the Venta has needed refilling every 3 to 4 days. The effect on room humidity has not been measured but subjectively the family all agree that the comfort level is much improved. House plants also seem to be happier! Cleaning has proven simple and relatively quick and has been done every two weeks. The clever clamshell design of the fan unit makes dust removal simple and washing the evaporation plates and reservoir has also proven simple. The major criticism is the availability and pricing of the recommended additive and cleaner. From on-line research I have followed advice and use citric acid in lieu of the proprietary additive. Three quarters of a table spoon of the powder are added to the reservoir each time the unit is cleaned. After a number of cleaning cycles (4 or 5) the unit is showing no signs of mould growth or any other negative impact from using the citric acid. The Venta is also removing dust from the room air as is shown by the mucky nature of the residual water when the unit is cleaned. Overall the unit is great and after two months of 24/7 operation is thoroughly recommended. Three additional comments are: rather than refilling the reservoir full at the tap (becomes rather heavy and easy to slop water over the top when moving) I use a quart plastic jug and make 5 trips to and from the tap to refill the reservoir; similarly after cleaning I only partially refill the reservoir and then top up with the jug in situ; while the unit has no humidistat the unit is in a sense self regulating as the higher the humidity the lower the rate of evaporation should be.

Can’t buy additive anywhere in uk
Great product. Can’t buy the water treatment additive though that comes with it, which you need to top up from time to time.

Requires purchase of 'hygiene additive'.
I have bought an expensive piano and humidity levels in the room where I play became unacceptably low in very cold weather. This supplier was recommended on a piano forum. On the plus side it is relatively quiet and seems to be working (after 3 days usage). The fact that you can use tap water is encouraging, however it isn't made clear in the Amazon description that you need to buy an additive to put in the water to avoid scaling. The first 50ml application is supplied with the unit. The additive is not available in the UK (and isn't available on Amazon) so a 500 ml bottle from Germany costs around £30 (incl shipping and tax). It requires 50ml every fortnight. The instructions with the unit are woefully inadequate with no explanation on how to clean the unit and how to use the additive in the long term. I had to hunt around on Google to find answers This is in the top price bracket of humidifiers and I expected better.Update after a year. The unit is still working well and operates quietly. The 500ml 'hygiene additive' is now available in the UK and costs around £20... this should last me for the year as I only use it in the winter months when central heating dries the air in the room. I use 50ml per fortnight. I've increased the star rating.
