This is a painting of the silent film actress Allah Nazimova. I am a huge fan of older films and I always enjoy looking at pictures of silent film actors and actresses due to the large amount of contrast in each image. They are always very striking with such wildly different lights and darks. This image in particular caught my eye because Allah Nazimova was always very distinct in her styling choices, such as her hair and costuming. Also, she has a very nice, distinct profile that is very reminiscent of classical paintings. This piece was created by using black Reeves Gouache paint with water on the paper, much in the same way that watercolor is used. I decided to use gouache because it is more opaque and gives a more substantial (vs. ethereal) when used. The paper used was white, acid free, cold press, 140 lb watercolor paper. The image itself measures 10x14.5 inches. On the back of each piece is the year it was created and the artist's initials. This is an original painting of a very unique actress of a bygone era. This painting comes framed with a wonderful, large black frame with light wood accents and black and white double matting. Painted with love by Krysta Logan.
