Great browsing book
Having purchased the previous Eighteenth Century Style book by M. Lalande, I was excited to see more with different homes. This volume is more 'accessible' homes than the last one & should appeal to anyone who likes looking at uniquely French style in a liveable home of today.

Good Coffee Table Book
This is not a book for those who like their furniture "shiny" or in perfect condition, but those who don't mind the cracking paint and grungy patina from all of the years of use. There's a mix of 18th-20th century antiques and repro's providing quality rustic displays. Usually these books provide French and Italian design examples, but this one also provides plenty of Swedish antiques, too.The one important takeaway from this book is how cautious you have to be as a antique shopper. For those serious shoppers looking for authentic pieces, it's becoming increasingly difficult distinguishing between what is old and what is a reproduction. They are doing such a good job with the new pieces these days, so you have to know what to look for, because you may buy a piece for $5000 that's worth only $500. I would believe the antiques in this book are authentic, so it's amazing how the new stuff looks like the pieces in it.Overall, a good book to look through if you appreciate old furniture/designs. I would recommend for your collection.

How old is too old?
I was disappointed to see the selection of photos for this book. Some of the antiques seemed to be better destined for the recycle bin than to be used as actual interior decorations.I got the sense that the authors of the book really had to work hard to find 18th century furniture and decorations.I was expecting something a bit more polished and sophisticated . . .

Lovely book with beautiful antiques that showcase current homes with 18th century treasures
Lovely book with beautiful antiques that showcase current homes with 18th century treasures. Many vignettes on the pages are inspired by nature.

Great European Design
This is a great book, especially if you are looking for that "collected over time" European look to your home. However, even if you like contemporary design, this book could be for you as the interior shots of the rooms are not "packed" with decorative objects. Many of the rooms shown in this book have a simple look to them, but they are not cold or austere, they are timeless and understated. If you are looking strictly for the mid-century modern look, or the contemporary, Italian European look of chrome and red leather, then you will probably not like this book. Similarly, if you like the "Barbara Barry" look of highly polished rooms, that in my opinion all look alike, you will probably not care for this book.
