10/19, Kaua`i tropical island. Kelly Waterson (Jay’s GF) told Detective Leilani “Lei” Texeira (Kaua`I PD, #2367) she wanted to file a MP case on Jay Bennett (27). The 2 of them were from Clovis, CA. He was supposed to have been camping at a park called Pine Trees (Hanalei). Jay’s stuff was in a trash container. Detective Jack Jenkins (Lei’s partner, Kaua`I PD) had just arrived. 1st stop Pine Trees, then Paradise Realty office (Kilauea). Ms. Lehua Wolcott met with Detective Texeira. In 2005, Kassie Feldman, Peter Krakouwer, Neil Powers, Grey Smith, John Samson, Tracy Enders, Brize Calloway, Susan Herzog, & Hal Bloom were missing also. Waikapala`e Cave. Detective Texeira, & Alika Wolcott were exploring. They had found some remains & took them to Becky “Becks” Banks. Becky, & Detective Stevens (Kaua`i PD) arrived & the 4 of them dove down to the Blue Room. What were the Timekeeper, & Jay discussing? A very well written crime mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great crime mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars. First of all, the location is Hawaii. What's not to love? I love to read stories about smart women, who are not perfect. Lei is vulnerable, but does not let that get in the way of the job she needs to do. If you want to read about the plot, check out another review. I can tell you a book needs to keep my interest, or I don't bother finishing it. I am just starting the 4th book in the series, so you can believe these books are worth the time to read. If you want everything tied up in a neat little bow and happy endings, this may not be your cup of tea. If you want to read an entertaining plot and about evolving characters, give these books a try.

Lei Texeira transfers to the island of Kaua'i as a detective with the Kaua'i Police Department, because she needs to move on with her life after calling off her engagement to Michael Stevens. Among the lush jungle landscapes, beautiful beaches, and a culture steeped in tradition, Lei is once again pitted against an evil that is hard to comprehend. Lei and her partner, Jack Jenkins, are investigating a series of break-ins at homes owned by Paradise Realty. A distraught woman contacts Lei about her missing boyfriend who has traveled to the beautiful island to find himself. As the two detectives delve into the man's disappearance, they uncover a meth lab and other people who have gone missing. It seems someone is taking people from the hippie population. Lei meets the charming Alika Wolcott, who is also a real estate magnate. Lei finds herself attracted to Alika, but she can't seem to get her ex-fiance out of her mind. Toby Neal has done it again! Torch Ginger, the second in the Lei Crime series, takes Lei on a merry chase of crime, murder, missing people, drugs, and a bizarre cult. Ms. Neal writes with such flair and finesse, bringing her characters to life. I felt as if I was right in the book, following along watching all the drama unfold. She weaves a story of deep emotions, intrigue, mystery, and a little bit of fun. The secondary characters are also mysterious, colorful and add so much to the overall story. As each new character was introduced, my mind went into overtime trying to figure if he or she was the one doing the killing. Lei is such a kick-butt woman that it's almost too much to think of her as being somewhat vulnerable. Ms. Neal is able to get that vulnerability across with flying colors. As Lei and Alika's relationship progressed, I wasn't sure who I really wanted her to be with. I thought both Alika and Michael were sexy, hot men and would be good for Lei. Michael seemed like he was less likely to be able to let Lei go; he was still trying to get back together. Alika was a playboy and enjoyed living life. I so enjoyed Jack's character, he was so much fun and I really hope that some day he will get his own book and be happy. The suspects in Torch Ginger were written so well that it was truly difficult to solve who the killer was. I really enjoyed reading Torch Ginger as much as I did book one, Blood Orchids. If Ms. Neal were to write 50 books in this series, I would happily read them all. If you like a good suspenseful plot, laced with some twists and turns, this book is for you. copyright TwoLips Reviews

I've read a lot of murder mysteries over the years becoming a real fan of the genre. But this 2nd in the Lei series is the best of the best. Easy to follow, believable, set in paradise, and the icing on the cake. Lei Texeiri, our lead, is an absolute treasure of a personality. Prone to mistakes, still learning, very human, and vulnerable. You'll know why if you have read book #1 of the series and then this one. Many's a time you'd like to just give her a big hug. There's a real solid hard core story here laid out with great logic and skill. The kind you read non stop. Not because you necessarily want too, but because you just cannot put it down. So total kudos to Toby Neal, our author. I'm hooked and have downloaded four books of the series so far. I can now see myself reading them all.

This is the second in a series of crime novels set on the island of Hawaii. Lei is a female detective recovering from a love affair that happened in the first book (must get a copy!). She helps to crack a weird cult that deals in human sacrifice and artificial drugs. It's a gripping read, which I thoroughly recommend - after you've read 'Blood Orchids' which starts the series. The characters are believable and well described - and as for the island - I wish I could visit it!

The first I've read in this series and will certainly read more. I also loved following the protagonist around the island via google earth to get to know and appreciate a place on the other side of the world!

What a wonderful read. I couldn't put the book down once I started. I felt at home with the characters and totally enjoyed it. Was whisked away for a good few hours and didn't want the chaos to end. Looking forward to reading more from the author.

This is the second book of the series and like the first, it contains fast paced action and drama. Lei, the main character is a newly promoted police detective, recently transferred to Halaua'i police dept in Hawaii. She is struggling with the aftermath of a romantic break-up and post traumatic stress related to abuse in her childhood. A young woman comes to Hawaii looking for her boyfriend and reports him as missing, this awakens Lei to the realisation that there is a series of related missing persons on the island.
