Perfect for my needs
I've had a couple units for SSD and they've always been either light and fragile or not quite up to scratch. This unit fits in with my needs perfectly. It's really easy to use and install an SSD, really easy. The biggest bonus though, is the fact that this is a heavy solid unit. Very nice construction, nicely finished with no sharp edges. The casing was an important deciding factor as I need something that won't crack or break with constant movement. This should survive long term with some fairly heavy handed treatment with being banged around in a briefcase while travelling. My initial reasoning was that as I had upgraded the SSD in my laptop to a larger unit, I had a spare, it seemed a completely unnecessary waste to leave it sitting around in packaging when it could be used. As I mentioned, I tried several other units, none of which felt right. Or basically, none of which felt like they would survive long outside of a padded carry case.I admit I didn't expect much when I ordered this, the main attraction was in the description "Premium aluminum casing with CNC technique and thermal silicon pad design." That convinced me to give it a try. I was very surprised at the weight of this item when I unboxed it. It felt solid right from the get go. I've had this for a couple months now and it's survived so far with the abuse that has been dealt out to it. Survived so well in fact that there still isn't a single mark on the casing. Okay, yes I do clean it, but still, it's not scratched or dinked. Nice. Data transfer across the USB3 is good and reduces the pain of backing up or copying data. Usual transfer for me is around 127mb/s average. It can transfer at much higher rates, but the machines I usually get to attach this too are a tad slower. Not everybody lives on the cutting edge unfortunately. It does get a little warm over long term use, but the warning is right there in the description where they designed it to use the casing as a heat sink to remove heat. I presume that is working per design, but do appreciate that this thing can get pretty hot if it's plugged in for a while. So basically don't be keeping this in a pocket, or on top of a chocolate bar or similar. If you are using this long term, you might want to consider having some sort of mobile air source to assist in heat removal. At the end of the day, this does exactly what I want, it's tough enough to survive me and it's dead easy to use and set up. You can't ask for more than that. Efficiency, simplicity, reliability. Really, that just about perfect.

Works fine on USB 3.0 not just 3.1
This is an excellent external drive which is well made - beware though as I only found it to work with true NVME M2 drives as it would not work with my SM951 AHCI. To be fair the leaflet does specify support with non NVME devices is patchy at best but despite saying the SM951 should work it did not as it could never initialize the disk -970 evo worked perfectly though. This device is well made and even comes with its own screwdriver and an extra screw. It's touches like that which elevate this external drive way above others- performed fine over a standard USB 3.0 port for me despite the 3,1 recommendation. Very portable and light - excellent product.

Excellent Cooling
After trying a couple of cheaper SSD caddies, I eventually bought this one. The others didn't have adequate heat dissipation and everything got terribly hot (over 70 degC).This one is so much better in that regard and my 512gb SSD, even under heavy load, rarely gets above 50 degC. That's a marked improvement! The case is very well made and surprisingly heavy!Installation is very straightforward. and everything is secure. I did find the heat pad to be a tad thin. However, having played this game before, I have a kit of these pads of varying thicknesses.Given the price of this caddy, a spare heat pad would be useful - as would slightly better quality data cables. To be fair, I have had no particular issues with these cables but I have swapped them for some shorter double braided ones I had available.Performance wise, everything works as promised - indeed, its rather rapid! So, the caddy is a bit expensive but, it does the job some of its cheaper rivals don't. You also get the bonus of a small screwdriver.....

970 eco 1TB nvme m.2 overheats quickly
Worked fine to start with but the 1TB 970eco SSD overheated pretty quickly. I tried to copy 100gb of video footage onto the card and its stalled at about 50gb and the card stopped working until it cooled down. Looks like I will ahve to get a lower spec SSD card to go in this enclosure as the heat does not dissipate fast enough for the 970 eco.

Great little product
It feels lovely and solid and is dead easy to use. It will take all sizes of NVME M.2 SSD and works well. I used it to clone my old SSD onto a bigger one and now use it as external storage using the old SSD.

Beware once you close it.
Beware. Once you've installed a drive in this enclosure. It cannot be opened again without breaking it. I had to swap out a drive and the tolerances, normally a good thing, made it impossible to open again. There's simply nothing to lever or pull. You can't even put a screw partially in to pull it, because the screws go into the top, leaving the bottom "lid" untouched. This is extremely poor design.

Easy to use and reliable
Accurate product description. Prompt delivery. Well packaged with good instructions. Installation of SSDs were simple. Detected on a Windows 7 PC very easily via the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable.I used this to securely wipe two 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs from a laptop that would not start before returning it for a replacement. As I needed to wipe two SSDs, I used the enclosure without covering it. With open use and hours of data wiping this enclosure worked very effectively with no heating issues. Highly recommended.
