Had to replace my coralife superskimmer
I had originally purchased a coralife super skimmer as a HOB skimmer because it also functioned as an in sump skimmer had I ever decided to make the switch. About two months after purchasing the coralife super skimmer I went and added a sump to my system. The Coralife super skimmer worked ok as a HOB skimmer but terrible as an in sump skimmer. It was never consistent, constantly overflowed, and never produced a skim. I honestly don't know how I went 6 months with this skimmer not working and my corals still thriving. Now to the Reef Octopus skimmer which I just purchased. Works great. First thing I noticed was a much better construction than my previous coralife skimmer. The skimmer cup is friction fit into the protein skimmer on the reef octopus which is very desirable as it was never easy to screw the skimmer cup back onto the coralife super skimmer. The airline hose is much thicker, and the air silencer is clear with much larger holes than the coralife skimmer. This is extremely important because my coralife super skimmer would clog in two days tops because of salt creep, and any fluctuation in the air intake on a skimmer will cause it to overflow. I've had my reef octopus running for two week and have had no salt creep issues or calcium buildup in the air intake line.Actual performance: Took me about a week to really get the reef octopus broken in and tuned to work optimally with my system. Now that it I have fine tuned it I am getting an thick skim and am seeing all of the junk that is being removed from my tank. Finally a skimmer on my system that works as it is suppose to.

Great great skimmer for the money
This has been on my tank for over three years now. I broke the water intake tube by accident while I was fitting it in my sump when it was brand new. I used pvc glue and it worked like a charm. Fast forward three years later and this skimmer is still going strong. I have never had issues with this unit. I would really recommend this skimmer to anyone.(70 gal display with 30 gallon sump. Mainly stony corals (lots of acros) with some softies and lps)

Just one strike
Good skimmer and always wanted one from these guys because of reputation. Only complaint it the way it is set up is it reacts to actual water level in your sumo so if water level goes down so does it in the skimmer and changes where your foam builds up. Last skimmer was built that it would always stay full regardless of sump level. Otherwise works good and is the quietist pump I’ve ever not heard.

Amazing skimmer
Does just what you want it to. I only have about 55 gallons Between my display and sump, with about 12 small fish. It took a few weeks to break in but this skimmer of perfect for me now. It’s meant for a 110 gallon setup, but i have a heavier bio load, over feed sometimes, and also reef roids 2-3x a week, so it can get really messy. But this size seems to work perfect. Anyone that has a similar setup to mine and it’s unsure if this skimmer will be to big don’t be afraid of it. Eventually your bio load should catch up with it. I just put a ball valve on the intake of the skimmer to reduce the air to about 65%, this immediately fixes micro bubbles even if it’s only a few days old. Eventually you can add more air through the ball valve if you feel like the load is increasing. Also check out bulkreefs videos on tuning skimmer if you’re having trouble. ;)Happy Skimming!

Reef Octopus... Its a Great Skimmer!
With a reputation like Reef Octopus skimmers have, my review really doesn't matter much. Using in a Eshopps sump and cannot ask for better results. Expect a break in period of 1-2 weeks before you get any real results of skimmate, so don't get discouraged wait for the setup to work. You will also need to find the perfect balance for your sump setup and air vs. flow mixture using the flow valve, which changed once it "broke in". When it did, it produces! My 90 gallon reef tank creates enough where I have to empty it about every 3-4 days+ and it is nasty green/brown stinky skimmate... better out than in right? if you are going on a vacation... it does have a drain plug on the collection cup to setup if desired.Otherwise you get get a much better sump skimmer for the value and price than a Reef Octopus. To compare... I also own a Aqua-C Remora (another great skimmer) from another tank (hang on tank model) and the reef octopus produces wet skimmate more than the drier skimmate that the Aqua-C makes (totally different skim methods though. I would have used it but the rating is for 75 gallons or less.Add a comment before you say not helpful I will try to reply. Thanks.

Always Overflowing
Bought this skimmer replacing a Coralife that finally died after about 8 years in a 100 gal salt water tank. Well it worked exceptionally well for the first 3 weeks or so. But now for the last 5 months, it will not stop overflowing. I've been to customer support, tried all the settings, have it sitting in nearly the minimal amount of water possible. Finally just have to trash it and go back to what has proven to work for me.

Workhorse of a skimmer
I have this skimmer attached to my 90 gallon reef aquarium. I ran the aquarium with no skimmer for a few months since I did not have a large bioload and I was trying to save a bit of money at the time of the build. I did eventually purchase this skimmer when I started to add more fish. With about 4 fish in the 90g tank for a few months doing 20% biweekly water changes, I added this skimmer. And it got to work. I could not believe how much gunk was in the water!! It was pulling out dark tea/coffee colored skimmate. Every couple days I was emptying the collection cup. After running for a few months, once a week is sufficient now. Another site recommends this for 120g light bioload, 90g medium bioload, and 60g with heavy bioload. I would tend to agree with that when sizing this skimmer's capacity.Worth every penny to A) make my system healthier, less bacteria, etc. and B) cut my tank maintenance by more than half.
