Long Range Shooting Handbook: The Complete Beginner's Guide to Precision Rifle Shooting

I am a "old salt" entering the competitive target shooting game after an almost 30 year lay-off from formal shooting. Never was a sniper, but shot USMC Expert all 10 years I was required to qualify/requalify - including just prior to my duty in Desert Storm. This was a great book as both a refresher, bringing back all of the old axioms we were told back when I was much younger, as well as introducing me to the new discipline of Long Range (LR) shooting, which for me was anything beyond 600 yards and iron sights. Quick and clearly written read with enough photos & definitions that anyone can follow and not feel completely lost when they get out to the range for the first time. No bad advice, or self-promotion here. Only good hard info that anyone will find useful. The "truth teller" for me in this book was the author's admission that though right handed and left eye dominate, he was able to shoot very proficiently using a right handed shooting position. On this point I have extensive experience, since that was exactly my situation (strongly left-eye dominant, but excellent eyesight in both eyes) when I went into the USMC (that and not having used anything but bolt-action rifles during my youth). Since, by direction of The Commandant, all marines will do as ordered, all 200+ of us on the range that week were taught to shoot as "right handers." The "sight picture" and shooting fundamentals taught (which are the same as the author covers) served me well as I shot my M-16, and qualified USMC Expert, cross-eyed for over a decade. Great book! Buy it!

Good but with lots of good information, well written and easy to read.... BUT! THIS IS A BEGINNERS GUIDE (WHICH IT DOES STATE!) i did not think it was a beginner's to rifle or a firearms.I thought it was beginners to long range.... This is more geared for someone that has never even had a 308 on a deer hunt..... I am starting to step out past a 1000 yd and looking to hone my skills and learn a little more....this book is not for the guy that has been shooting 400-1k+ It is more geared for someone that has been shooting 9mm or 22lr rifles at fifty yards and now ready for a larger caliber, going into the 100-200 hundred yards or more. But I will still give it 5 stars because it does have some pretty good information in there. And I will still read the entire book. Even though I know most of what it it teaching... I will still pick up on a few things.And learn some I hope.

This is an excellent "handbook" for learning and/or enhancing long range shooting. The author does an amazing job breaking down everything associated with shooting at distance, and making the objectives very clear and easy to understand. The sections/chapters on the fundamentals are exceptional, and I really appreciated the easy explanations on calculating and adjusting for distance and windage. Can't say enough, this book is excellent!!

Lots of excellent info for the beginner shooter, written clearly and engagingly. There are some issues matching up text with images in the ebook and a number of typos but overall a solid read, very informative and practical.

Book is simply outstanding. I'm not new to firearms and shooting (former Red Leg) but had forgotten many finer points over the years and Ryan's book is a great refresher. But he also includes a lot of material that is new to me, or an extension of concepts that I had not considered. It is logically organized (the importance of which cannot be understated), well written, fast paced for a non-fiction work, humorous only often enough to remind you the author is a real person, and immensely useful. If you're new to shooting, don't buy anythng until you have read the book through cover to cover. Not only will you not waste your money, you'll have a real feeling of satisfaction and confidence about your purchase decisions when the time comes. The only reason for withholding a star is that the references to the online chapters are not up to date and the information that's supposed to be available online isn't. I hope that is eventually addressed, because it would be especially helpful for making purchasing decisions.

Every shooter should read this book, whether for hunting or target shooting!

Nice information for long range . The book it's amazing for me ! A great job, I paid the book with some fear of being deceived but now I even paid more. Thank you for the time dedicated to teaching people with less experience in the long-range... I'm Portuguese and I'm living in Switzerland.
