Lovely wooden handles. Safe lock mechanism
Reminds me of age 14 day out in France… well made. Effective pocket knife.

C’est un Opinel quoi!
Was given my first no.8 33 years ago from the family who housed me in the Dordogne on my French exchange trip from the UK. I loved it and now I speak French fluently and I think Opinel make the best EDC blades for cooking in the field

Good size, difficult to open
I am not a knife aficionado, but wanted a small pocket knife for tasks around the garage, such as opening parcels and cutting garden string. The opinel size 8 is a classic, small folding knife, and the lock mechanism seems very secure. The blade is very thin and sharp, and seems perfect for my needs. The only downside is that I find the knife difficult to open from the closed position. I guess if I had sturdy fingernails that it would be easier, and I have not gotten the hang of the 'opinel flick' that I see on youtube.

Great EDC / camping knife
Opinel #8 with an oak handle Great knife, shady out of the box (bit of a burr left though) nice oak handle, which is much better than the standard beech one, o opinel makings on the handle as some reviewers have mentioned, that's perfectly normal for the 'luxury' range (ie different woods and designs) from opinel Lock works fine, secures well when open and closed. I drilled a small hole to attach some paracord and a ferro rod

Opinel oak No.8 My favorite.
This is my first Opinel and now my favorite pocket knife. I think it is all well a good having these high end, expensive specially designed knives. But at the end of the day they do the same job. Some good, some bad. This is a design that has been around for years I understand. Fits well in the hand, folds nicely and locks. Why change it if it works. And this does work. Reasonabley sharp out of the box and like it that you can lock the blade closed. Again classic idea/design that others get to complicated on. This may be my first, but not my last. Hope helps

Light weight camping knife.
Very sharp knife. Feels durable and the locks works well. The weight of the handle feels slightly off on this knife compared to the smaller no.7 (this was a no.8), almost too light. I don't know if that's because of the wood I selected or the size. Either way works well as a camping/cooking knife and should last a life time. The stainless steel means it shouldn't rust as long as I clean and care for it properly.
