My unit urns on fine and measures temp and light, but only shows a steady 7.0 Ph (the reason I bought it) no matter what I put it in. It seems like several of you mentioned removing the white cap o the bottom of the probe, but mine doesn't come off no matter what I do and it is not mentioned in the instructions. am I missing something? Will change star or delete review when it works. If someone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Soil meter works perfectly. Buttons are gentle press buttons for Off and On, Ph and moisture sensor button is on the back. Easy to use and totally user friendly. I tested the meter and been using it in my garden and potted plants! Also don't know whether it was a mistake or not, but there were 2, 9volt batteries included in this package.

Included with the meter are the instructions, protective end cap, and two 9 volt batteries. The instructions are printed a bit small but cover the basics well. The instructions indicate that this has a one year warranty.This meter is a very neat one with its ability to measure 4 different things as opposed to just being a moisture meter. This measures moisture, PH level, light level and soil temperature. I am always out in the yard planting different things but one of the things I struggle with is determining the amount of light an area gets and buying the appropriate plant/flower for that area. So for me, the one feature I like the most is the light feature, especially in the area I live where the hot summers and too much sunlight can wilt a partial sun or shade plant quickly. The sturdy probe itself appears to be decent quality and operates on one 9 volt battery. The display of the probe has a plastic casing with a metal probe that is approximately 8 inches in length. To use, power on, remove the protective cap and insert the probe into the soil. I do think the buttons could be better arranged as there is a separate on button on the front, the switch to select PH or moisture is on the back and the separate off button is combined with the C/F selector on the front. The C/F selector is a bit too easy to switch accidently and the probe does not have a memory so it automatically starts in Celsius every time. Why not put an on/off switch with a separate C/F and PH/moisture buttons located on the front? The different measurements seem to be accurate enough for my use. The display is easy to read and has a bright backlight that automatically comes on in low light. The display indicated the temperature or PH level along with the light level and moisture level at the same time. The display will also indicate a low battery. To turn off, press the off/C/F button for a couple seconds but this also has an automatic shutoff after 5 minutes. The light meter and other features are useful for me but I do wish it had a way to measure the light for a day to determine total light level instead of at the moment.For home use, this serves the purpose pretty well, although the buttons could be arranged a bit better and could use a memory for the settings.4 starsI was provided a sample for review and I do not promise a good rating in return, nor am I affiliated with this company or compensated in any way. This 4 in 1 soil survey instrument is VERY handy. With a 8" probe it can reach a ways down into the soil. The main controls are on the front but there is one important one on the back which switches the big read out from temperature to PH level. On the front, the button on the left switches the unit on, the one on the right changes the temperature to Celsius or Fahrenheit. This is also the button to turn the unit off. Hold the button down for a couple seconds until it switches off.The display has a green back-light with the main reading being nice and large. On the top it tells you how much sun is around and when switched on to temperature mode, along the bottom it tells you whether the weather is wet or dry.This unit uses one 9V battery. TWO are included in the package so that is an extra bonus. An operation manual is also enclosed. Product provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz

With a drought where I live, plants suffer. I tried this to see if it might help me know the conditions under the soil better. Besides the PH balance, it gives an indicator of moisture, sunlight, and the temperature. It comes on a long probe, to dig down to test. Think of it as a gardener's thermometer.Provided for testing, and this is my review. It is simple to use, and a booklet explains how. The readout is small, but can be discerned. A sensible item.
