What can I say about this thing that the pictures alone don't already show. From the minute this thing's concept got released and I got an initial view of what it looked like I knew I had to get it for my collection. I am a huge DBZ fan through and through from the mid-90's to now and beyond and this is a perfect and iconic image of Goku when he first transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan in Funko's traditional styling. At a glance, the first thing one would notice is the angry look on Goku's face as he is determined to defeat Frieza and avenge Krillin's death. Even in Pop form you can feel the anger emanating from his face as it was sharp feelings of anger and grief that was the catalyst for Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan. The aura emanating behind him is a great addition and nice touch to illustrate that golden glow he had contrasting a dark sky over Namek as he stood stoically before Frieza. A nice little addition in terms of cosmetics but also with a purpose as it provides better stability due to it being a base for a slightly heavier Pop. The body has been reworked as well since Funko has strayed away from their original traditional Pop model and now give their figures more dynamic poses and better looking molds unique to the character now. The DBZ line in particular has many of their characters in anime accurate poses to reflect the moment it was seen on screen as shown in SS Goku's defiant posture when we first see him transform now recreated in Funko's styling. Overall I am very impressed with this figure and glad I pre-ordered it when it became available and now it sits in my collection and is easily one of my favorites out of many in my collection that continues to grow. A little bit of irony here too in that I took a picture of this SS Goku alongside the first SS Goku I got 4 Christmases ago as a gift which was the first of my collection and I now have this as a Christmas gift to myself years later as the hundredth in my collection. It's funny how things come full circle but a side by side comparison really allowed me, and you too hopefully!, to see how far Funko has come and improved their game to delivering something for the fans of a fandom. The original SS Goku by no means had any faults and was always my #1 favorite for good reason but comparing the original one with the new one only highlights the awesome with the new SS Goku! A slimmer look, a new hair sculpt, the determined expression, battle damage look after a war with a tyrant, the aura of a legendary warrior, and all of this is what makes a good Pop a better Pop due to Funko learning along the way and improving their designs! Overall and the TL;DR of this is the 2020 version of Super Saiyan Goku is a welcomed addition to anyone's collection and a great gift for a DBZ fan such as myself and many others! This is an improvement of an already great Pop that will only have it stand out in your collection! I can recommend this for anyone looking to expand their collection as you will not be disappointed with this Pop! BTW there is a GITD variant that is worth a look and a find since Super Saiyans should definitely be glowing! Thank you for coming to my TedTalk!
