- MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS To find width: Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8". Blind should overlap opening of window at least 3" on each side to ensure privacy. To find height: Measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8". If there are no obstructions, add at least 2" above and 3" below window opening. For Patio Doors, measure from the floor to the top of the window & add at least 2".
