I've had the WS-2000 since it was released, several years now. It's been an excellent weather station that is now turning into a vital set of eyes on my home while I am away. I finally decided to free up the cash to get a couple of these sensors. Now that I have them, I realized that I should have done this much sooner. I am using these to monitor a couple of critical water points where a leak could result in a serious home disaster. They are very easy to integrate, just set the channel between 1 to 4 via the DIP switches. The settings are printed right on the unit, meaning you don't even have to break out the manual. They are powered by three AAA batteries, I use rechargeable Eneloops in mine despite the recommendations to use a Lithium battery. There is also a "sensitivity" setting that you can use to adjust sensitivity, such as if you wanted to check for actual water in an all ready damp area. I tested them out and they work very effectively. I like that they thought to put an audible alarm on them, not just relying on the sensor, the internet and text messages to let you know of a potential leak. The alarm is loud enough that you can hear it throughout a reasonably sized home. The wireless range was sufficient to get through multiple walls, furniture and a large refrigerator. (They say about 100 feet in the real world.) If you're buying this, you probably have all ready integrated your weather station - but adding text/email alerts based on these sensors is just as easy as any other alert. My only wishlist would be AA battery support over AAA. I much prefer the AA format, capacity and ease of management when using rechargeable batteries. I do have a stock of AAA's, though, so I guess these put them to good use. I expect that these will continue to last, just like every other Ambient Weather product I own. Given that I use rechargeable batteries, I will simply replace the batteries on a schedule as I do with the rest of my sensors. If anything major changes, I'll update this review. But, if you own the Ambient Weather stations, this might provide valuable insight into your home.

Got this because a water pressure tank had a small leak that didn't alert us right away anything was wrong till it was major wrong. (this detector would have alerted us before a big problem) Got the tank replaced and installed the leak detector and now have peace of mind. Tested on a damp paper towel and it worked perfectly. It came with the sensitivity set to high. It automatically connected to the WS 2000, just put batteries in. As others have noted this can be used as a stand alone device if needed. (or power failure. EDIT UPDATE 09.18.2024 Our new pressure tank feed supply fitting started "weeping" so a very very slight leak. The leak detector comes from the factory with the sensitivity set to high. Long story short, it detected the leak when the concrete was just damp. If we could give this 10 stars we would. It has saved us potentially a lot of $$

Works as stated

When I initially got this WH31LA I didn't realize how small it was going to be, compared to other leak detectors I've used. Despite the small size it's really loud when it goes off, and quite piercing. Initially I couldn't get it to connect to my Ambient Weather WS2000 and I was going to return it, but I decided to check if they had firmware updates. Turned out my firmware was 5+ years old! Once updated, it could detect the leak detector no problem. A nice feature of this leak detector is the battery compartment has a rubber seal around it. While it probably wouldn't survive long-term submersion, I expect it'd be fine for the sort of scenario where something has backed-up. The underside of the sensor is one large detection plate, so you need to place this flat, not raised or sideways. I expect this will do very well in letting me know when my AC drain pain is filling-up.

Exactly as described

I got two of these, and they both worked well for a while connected to my weather station WS-2000... unfortunately after two false positives they don't even connect back to the weather station now. Was only a month out of return window, so basically out $80. Do not recommend. Buyer beware.

Easy to set up, I thought I would never need them. Wrong! One Saturday morning one went off and alerted me to the start of a leak. I was able to repair it immediately, avoiding a costly repair.

We have three already and this is our 4th! They work and I am so glad to have another one to monitor our humidifier under our central air system. You will hear these alarms when you have a leak but will save you from water damage.
