Using the silhouette printed on the side of the gauge to identify smaller o-rings, do I use the outer or inner silhouette?

Nicholas, your o-ring should completely cover the white part of the silhouette. This is a bit tricky to do by eye. There's more to sizing an o-ring than comparing it to the silhouette. The Busy Corner o-ring gauge you're referencing is made for US sized o-rings. There are also metric, Japanese and British sizes. The only way to be sure of an o-ring's size is to measure the ID, OD and cross section with a caliper. For US o-rings, the numbers printed next to each silhouette on the gauge are called "dash" numbers. O-rings made to AS-568 specifications, no matter who the manufacturer is, will be the same size. So a -105 (dash 105) o-ring will have an inside diameter of .143, an outside diameter of .349 and a cross-section of .103. The first digit of a dash number tells you the cross section in decimal inches. 0 is .070, 1 is .103, 2 is .139, 3 is .210 and 4 is .275. Charts for US, metric, Japanese and British sizes are available on the internet. I likely gave you more info than you requested, but thought it may be of help to others.
