Netzwerk a1, libro del alumno + 2 cd Review: Seems okay - Never got to use it in class, but seems like it would be useful. Review: Created by sadists - I had to buy this for a college German 101 class. I can't image anyone buying this horror willingly. I've taken German 101 before, 30 years ago, so it wasn't entirely new. But this book is so awful... well, to be honest, I dropped the class. Let's see: • Written entirely in German. No English at all. I guess it's supposed to be used for multiple native languages. But wading through the German to figure out what's wanted -- you will be using Google Translate a lot. • It's all a jumble : there is no clear structure, expectations, or vocabulary list. What am I supposed to know when I get to the end of a chapter? Kurz und klar? Nicht. • Basically, it is like watching a 30 second commercial composed of 2 second flash bombs. Or like reading a book written on 2" post-it notes. • There is no key for the questions. How does one know if one's answer is correct? • The illustrations are childish, incomprehensible cartoons. • The Wordlist in the back is only in German. Let's hope you already know what "räumen" means. In which case, why are you looking at the Wordlist? • I bought the hard copy. I suppose if you buy the electronic format you get access to Blinklearning-- another fiasco in itself. I also suppose your access is good for a year. That's how long it is for the Course Workbook (grey) that I also had to buy, electronically. And that book is another review of misery. • The audio portions were recorded in situ, which means you get all the background noise and sounds to make actually hearing what's being said all the more difficult. The speakers might be native Germans -- they speak quickly! -- but at this point I'm merely trying to understand what words are being spoken. I should be happy that dogs weren't barking too. So, hey, if you'd teach your child to swim by throwing him in the deep end of the pool and taking a nap, this would fit your style. Otherwise... go live in Germany for a while. They all speak English there anyway.

This book is useful to build language from a beginner level, coming with interactive CDs to aid the learning process. I know it's supposed to be only in german for a reason, but it would be helpful to have a little english as a guideline. Overall good buy.

Vielen Dank

It is a good book to learn german and easy to understand. The delivery took some time but it was worth it.
