Chaco ZCloud 2 Rambling Gold-Durable-High quality. A problem solved
I have a weird foot, ankles overpronate, a lot. These sandals fit. My Left big toe impinges, crosses over on top of my second toe at about a 20-30 degree angle. Has been like this for years. It is painful at the base of the second toe. Nerve pain comes and goes when sitting or lying down, several times during the day and at night for about 5-10 minutes at a time. I've learned to live with the pain, maybe 3 1/2 on a scale of ten. Conventional wisdom advises to avoid foot surgery unless it is the only option. I got the bright idea that toe loop sandals might be of some help. I also purchased some Japanese Ninja toe socks. When I opened the box I wondered how they would fit. Instructions show you how to loosen all the straps. The straps are movable, there is space for straps to slide inside the shoe making them fully adjustable. Like all sandals of this type they are designed so that the toe loop goes around the base of the big toe, perfect position for someone with a normal big toe. For me, it would be ideal if the toe strap was maybe 3/8 inch further up the toe so the straps would exert greater lateral leverage, when tightened; would fully separate my big toe away from number 2. Tugging on the straps, tighten here, loosen there, I was able to get the sandals to fit perfectly. the more I tighten the toe loop strap, the more it pulls the big toe away towards being straight. I need it to be as tight as I can get it. I found a "sweet spot" where it is just enough without being uncomfortable. With Ninja socks and everything properly adjusted, the angle of my toe is 5-7 degrees. This moves my toe so instead of being crossed over on top of toe 2, it brushes against the side of the other toe. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes all the difference. Wow! after all these years--relief. I had this same idea about 5 years ago, but didn't follow through. I have diabetic feet and some ugly, gnarly toes that I would be too embarrased to wear regular flip flops exposing my feet to public scrutiny. With the Ninja socks, and the toe loop, it all looks quite normal. Great for shopping day in summer heat. I'm retired and so far just wearing these sandals around the house to break in. I have flat feet, no arch, but these feel pretty comfortable right out of the box. They are size 12 and looks like they're true to size, certainly not too small. Will update if any problems arise. In spite of my foot problems, I feel no pain when walking while wearing regular shoes. My feet work pretty well and in spite of appearance the only problem is what I've described. It seems now as if all my problems have been solved so I can just enjoy the improvement not having to think about my feet: like-normal. Walter O.

BEST OUTDOOR/ATHLETIC SANDAL I'M AWARE OF!
I have been a very active outdoors/wilderness person for my adult life (now 66 y.o.), including water activities such as river rafting and ocean kayaking. I started off wearing Teva sandals, and was reasonably pleased with them for years. When they stopped making the style I favored, I tried Chaco, and have loved and been using them ever since. Great fit, durability and functionality, as well as unsurpassed customer service. Though I enjoyed the easy on, easy off of the original Z/1, for uneven terrain, boulder hopping, lava walking (I live on the Big Island of Hawaii...plenty lava walking/hopping 🙂) I found having the toe secured is MUCH safer and sure, as the sole lifts up almost immediately like a covered shoe with each step, while the open toed Z/1 allows a bit more of a "gap" between toes and sole when lifting foot up and stepping forward; not a good thing when on uneven terrain and walking through water with the added weight of water to move through. Once the sandal is broken in and you get used to the little extra move to get toe strap situated perfectly, it is really only a matter of a few extra seconds to secure and go compared to the open toe. If you're going to be primarily on even terrain, open toe Z/1 works perfectly fine.

Great quality
I bought these for my active, 17 year old son. He loves them and wears them for a variety of purposes. He says they are extremely comfortable.

Extremely durable
These are the best sandals I have ever owned. My last pair I had for 10 plus year and I beat the hell out of them. They are comfortable even when you wear them for long periods of time. I use them in the river a lot kayaking and wet wading. I even used them for a mud volleyball tournament. They wash off easy great to travel with and just an all around great sandal.

Break in period absolutely sucks.
During the break in period the toe strap strangled my big toe every five steps I took. This problem only ceased once I got it submerged in mud during a hike. The problem seems to be returning a little bit because it gets tighter as I walk again after I’ve been using it for some time so it seems I’m gonna have to take a hike after a rainy day again with them on. If you want them just because they look pretty and you’re not gonna be outdoorsy with them it isn’t worth it. If you’re outdoorsy then they are good sandals. I’ve worn them for 10 miles at a time and while my feet get sore it’s probably more because of the long distance than it is because of the shoe being too hard. I will say, if you’re used to wearing sneakers all the time it will take getting used to because they aren’t quite that soft, but they are comfortable.

Women with wide feet - these are the winner!
I am a size 10/11 in women's with a wider foot. I have terrible arch support, so I love chacos for the comfort and support they offer. I've owned many chacos in my lifetime, but these are probably the ones that have fit my foot best - because they are WIDER than womens. I recently placed an order for 3 different pairs. This one (mens size 9 normal width), a women's size 11 (normal width), and a women's 10 (wide width). After walking around my kitchen for a while, these are the ones I decided were best for my feet for offering the most comfort and support.

Fabulous!
Due to some pronation issue I've had recurrent left ankle pain for a few months. I remembered how a couple of pairs of Chacos fixed my plantar fascitis on the same foot fifteen or twenty years ago, so I ordered some Z1 Classics only to be disappointed. They did not appear to help the pain, maybe b/c the forefoot/toes were not firmly connected to the footbed. Back go the Z1s and let's try the Z/Cloud 2s with the big toe loop. Yes, indeed. After wearing them for three days the pain is 80% improved. At $ 39 plus tax, no less. That is less than some of the fancier OTC orthotics. So, for high arches in general, plantar fascitis or overpronation look no further.

Updated review: 1 year on and these sandals are end-of-life! Not what I expected after reading all the glowing reviews. I have walked well under 1000km and the sole has split and can't be repaired in Australia. This is far less life than I've had from Keens. Very comfortable while they lasted.

Gave a neutral rating because I believe I might need a wide version. Couldn't wear them long enough to test for durability as I kept getting blisters on the inside of my feet in front on the ankle (where the fabric doubles up) and on the back of my heels. The sole seems to be of a decent material. The design makes it difficult to tighten the straps until you get used to it. Excess strap hangs off the sandal uncomfortably. Did enjoy the toe strap and the sandals held in place well.
