My Alcoholic Escape from Reality (My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness)

This is an honest, candid look at the struggles snd negative effects of alcoholism. It was so good, I couldn't put it down. I hope Nagata-san is doing well, and I look forward to reading more manga from her.

A crazy thing to happen to a 30 year old for sure but the overall story felt a little underwhelming and thin and somewhat unfinished. I think it was probably too soon for her to tell this story, and that there are probably more developments and her own processing about this aspect of her life to come. It just didn’t feel like she had enough perspective or enough to say about what went on with this incident and her alcoholism in general. Probably the weakest of the series, though slightly more likable than the Solo Exchange #1

The loneliness she’s had to deal with. The insomnia, the extreme anxieties, her parents, finding Ms Right, depression, and many other hang-ups. As if these weren’t enough, alcoholism hits her right between the eyes. She got sick and was hospitalized, discovered pancreatitis. Kabi was stuck with IV needles. (Yours truly knows the feeling!) She felt like a prisoner stuck with bland foods. She had to go without alcohol which was considered unthinkable. When discharged from hospital, she was warned she’ll have to take meds for fear of possible relapse. In the aftermath, she kept bouncing back and forth, from drinking to not drinking. Well, it’s a long haul in getting back to health.

Finished already and I enjoyed very much will be buying the authors other books. At this rate I’ll have to commit and buy a book shelf for this probably short splurge of manga that I’m buying.

I haven’t read it yet but just by skimming through the book I can see that the art has took a huge leap in quality, there’s so much more detail and the characters are ever more expressive. all the book in her series are amazing

My Alcoholic Escape from reality is a graphic memoir about one (very young!) woman's experience with alcoholism, their medical results, and her struggles and frustrations with the lifelong burdens she must carry as a result.I think the thing that struck me the most about this manga is how unflinchingly honest it is. Kabi Nagata doesn't glamorize her experience or cover up for her mistakes, instead choosing to put her own medical struggles on full display. This feels especially important when placed in a wider cultural context. By the end of the book, Nagata reveals that in Japan, the topic of alcoholism isn't treated as seriously as it is in the west, which was very eye-opening to me! I also enjoyed the artwork, which was simple yet expressive. I'd recommend this to readers looking for a highly personal story, as well as fans of graphic memoirs in particular.

La historia es buena en tanto que la autora es una gran narradora. Pero es muy frustrante ver que no ha aprendido nada después de sus primeros tres libros. Además de que no puedo con la zozobra de que el dinero que gana por estas ventas, lo va a seguir usando para hundirse a sí misma.Pero si nada de esto te importa, estamos ante una buena historia que puede abrirte los ojos en caso de que te sientas identificado con la protagonista, y podemos enterarnos en tercera persona acerca de cómo se mantiene o deteriora el estado de salud mental de alguien. Deseo mucho que Nagata mejore y sea feliz. Igual creo que leeré los otro libros que me faltan.

I love her work so much! The book came the next day of ordering and I just finished reading it even while I was working and it was so worth it! The book came in great condition also. In conclusion, Nagata Kabi is my favourite mangaka of all time ♥️

Je n'en dirais pas trop pour ne pas spoil mais c'est encore une fois un manga qui prend au tripe et qui sait parler au gens pour leur faire ressentir les émotions de notre protagoniste bien réel
