Authentic coaching comes from reflective inquiry, not learning ‘magic’ questions.
I really love Marcia Reynold’s new book. It has struck such a deep and resonant chord for my own coaching practice, especially the client-coach relationship and context of reflective inquiry over seductive killer questions; something that corresponds with essence of Motivational Interviewing, for me anyway. Many coaches and, more importantly, their clients are going to benefit from this.

Eye opening to me, for sure
I, as a trainer, facilitator, teacher, and, coach, somehow always felt that I needed to have all the answers to the questions that people would ask (the context here, is in my classroom etc). In my 'preparation work' I always tried to 'cover all the angles' to make sure that 'I had all the answers. Well, needless to say, all those 'prepared answers' consumed so much head space, that I don't think I was 'as present' as I could have been. This book paved the way for a shift in mindset because it has helped me to realize that the person being coached is on a journey. Coaches are not there to alter that in any way but to help the person fully live.

A Clear Path To Coaching
What a revelation! Between these covers lies page after page of inspiration, of hope and possibility, uplifting anyone's desire to be a coach and telling us that we can do it. That even judgy, distracted, reactive old me can make the difference I want to for others. Marcia Reynolds opens our eyes to what it looks like to be a coach, disappearing myths, showing us pitfalls, embedding a holistic approach and taking us to the high points. What a remarkable contribution to anyone who wants to become a coach. An essential tool for all coaches, old and new, to sharpen their skills and hone their craft.

Best for beginners
If you are an experienced therapist, mentor or coach then you will probably already be doing this. I felt this would be very useful for those starting out as coaches. Great reminders for all of us though. However, having heard so many good things about it, I was a bit disappointed with it, it just wasn't that inspirational or useful for me.
