Confusing.
I am completely confused by this book. It has some good qualities, but overall I'd just describe it as complicated and confusing.I'm a semi professional. I've been teaching private lessons for 15 yrs, playing for 40 yrs, and I practice a lot (around 2 hrs a day). In this book, the instruction for tonguing includes placing your tongue on the inside of your top lip? Really? So this is either a typo, or I've been doing it wrong all this time. Tongue should hit the back of your teeth right? Not to mention, if someone is unclear on how to tongue, is this book really the best source for someone just learning what tonguing means? I invested over an hour carefully reading the instructions in the book, and feel frustrated that the time could have been used actually practicing....and I'm still unclear on how the book should be practiced. Also, the micromanaging of the details of playing (where to place feet, how to move the flute as your playing, which knuckle to bend while trilling, and ultra specific instruction on playing music) are overwhelming to me.On the upside, it's great to have an extra copy of the Bach Partita in A Minor, fingering and trill charts are beautiful, and I hadn't ever thought of going from high F# to B with 2nd right hand finger on the F#. Whether those things are worth the $35 for the book, I don't know.I definitely would discourage any high school student from even looking at this book, simply because the complicated instructions may scare them. As I private teacher, I will try to take what I can from it to make it worth the purchase price.I recommend any Trevor Wye and Marcel Moyse books. They are classics and will never steer you wrong.

Another excellent addition to one's music library
As a collegiate student I really enjoy this book for my own practice, and to pul exercises for my students. That minute of tonguing is definitely a work out - but incredibly worth it!!

i dont like practice books that are divided by tonality
i dont like practice books that are divided by tonality. the exercises are ok, but not in the high register and i don't think this book is an original addition to studies and etudes that already exit. it is another compilation, of which there are already many. i was curious and purchased it, but as a professional, don't find it at all useful. stick with the classics, especially if you are a student.

This is a great addition to any flutist library
This is a great addition to any flutist library. Has many good teaching aspects that other books do not go into depth on.
