Great laptop 9 out of 10.
Review of the razer 18 with 4080 (2024 version) Heavy but justified by great quality material. Screen is just great especially with hdr and local dimming on. Speakers are good. I have a MacBook Pro 16 m1 and I’d say 70% of the time MacBook sounds better. But for podcast I prefer sound from razer which can get louder. Fans. Ok-ish when idle. Noisy in turbo mode. I have played in balanced mode so far which gets around 10 fps less but much quieter. Performance is great so far. I have been playing Indiana jones with path tracing and all setting to highest with dlss fg and it gets around 80 to 100 frames which is more than I expected. Trackpad is good but it doesn’t seem to have the same haptic as my MacBook. Haven’t tried it on battery and I didn’t buy it to use it on battery. Best thing about it is the quality of the construction of the laptop.

Not impressed.
Was really excited for this but the laptop suffered a catastrophic malfunction on my second day of playing on it. Complete power failure and the laptop will not turn on at all. Now have to start the refund process. Went onto razers website in hopes of a solution but their website it’s utter crap and useless. The more I dug the more I found out that they brag a lot of about the quality of their products but the internet says otherwise. Many people have posted comments and reviews complain about the poor quality or short lifespan of their products. Didn’t like the layout of the laptop. Positioning of the keys in relation to the size of the laptop and the ridiculous size of the touch pad made it annoying to use while playing games that use the wasd layout. Overall, not happy or impressed. This was my first and will be my last razer product I buy.

Very fast, large and expensive laptop...but worth it
I have had a number of fast laptops over the last 20 years. Some with LCD and OLED screens, but this is the first Micro LED backlit device that I own. 1. The screen is very very bright.. You can see Halo around objects, when running Dark mode, but I run mine at 60% HDR mode, and its plenty bright enough and reduces the Halo effect. 2. The speakers are the best I have ever had on a laptop (Gigabyte Aorus has awful speakers) 3. Weight. Its very heavy, so bear that in mind. 4. Cost. Its a very expensive laptop, and I am pleased to say that it feels like it. Its solid, no keyboard flex. 5. Wifi 7. I have an enterprise Zyxel Wifi 7 access point (with a 10Gbit network connection). I have managed o get transfer speeds over 250MB/s over Wifi 7 (about 4 Meters away and through a wall). Its fantastic. 6. The Razer software.....is not great. I prefer the Corsair software solution, but it is what it is. My device has the 14900HK and Nvidia 4080 Laptop GPU and the Mini LED screen.

A great buy at the discounted price
I would only buy this machine at the discounted price of £1400. I would find it hard to justify the purchase at £2000 given the new generation of Nvidia cards and the lack of Ryzen chip. However, there is a lot to love about this configuration (2070 max q, i7 1075H, 512gb SSD). -The touchpad is amazing and I am truly having a blast working on this laptop as a result. The windows gestures do not feel cumbersome or unreliable like in many other Windows laptops, thanks to the large and truly excellent touchpad. -The keyboard is nice, perhaps not amazing. Some reviewers obsess over key travel and other things, but to be honest feels about as high quality as a Mac keyboard. I've found it enjoyable to type on. The lighting is fun sometimes too. -Surprisingly, the laptop is completely silent when working. (most of my work involves sending emails, research and conducting calls). For these tasks, at battery saving mode, the fans do not even spin. -The aluminium, unibody design is super solid. Other than the snake logo, the whole laptop looks premium. -Thermals wise, this laptop performs extremely well under load. I have played red dead redemption 2 at medium to high settings at 1080p with just over 60fps at all times. The laptop has built in throttling by razer. In the balanced performance mode, configurable in Razer's software, the laptop rarely touches 80 degrees celsius, even with uncapped frames and after two hours of play. The highest I've seen it go is 82 degrees. Other gaming laptops easily reach 90 degrees. -There is a free M.2 SSD slot. I installed a 1TB SSD very easily at minimal cost. The internals are super easy to access. -The screen is very colour accurate, and reading articles and PDFs is very smooth at 144fps. -The bezels are very thin, adding to the premium aesthetic. -There is no bloatware. -Fairly sleek charger for a gaming laptop. -The hinge feels high quality. The screen does not wobble at all while typing. There are also some drawbacks. -The battery performance is not great. Even at battery saver, with the refresh rate turned down to 60 fps and reduced brightness, it will last around 5-6 hours doing basic work related tasks. -Despite the overall quality of the backpanel, the grills which protect the fans are slightly bendy. If your fans are working and you pick up your laptop while holding the grills, they will hit the fans. This is something that should be fixed asap and is not a unit defect; I understand it's a design issue for all the base model devices. -Obnoxious snake logo. -The speakers sound tinny and not great. -Easily attracts fingerprints. -Using an intel CPU when AMD clearly has the better offering. Overall a great laptop for work, media consumption and gaming. It feels very premium and is very enjoyable to use. Just don't pick it up for £2k... If there are any issues with quality control down the line, I will report back here.

Eats anything you drop on it! Great machine!
The laptop is great, any program I used, any game I played... this machine runs them like it's nothing... the best! Battery will last me for hours of normal use, no big deal. It's a shame I am not able to adjust individual button colours with the Chroma Studio... unfortunately it's because it's a base model and that doesn't allow that. The cooling is awesome, it likes to get very hot, especially the case and keyboard, but that's because it's all aluminium frame, it tends to spread the heat all over the laptop, which is cool and helps a lot. The fans are powerful but very quiet, compared to other laptops I heard, this one is sometimes 3 times more quiet, it's crazy! For my work I needed a little bit more SSD memory as it was only 512Gb. It was so easy to add more, just a couple of screws and done. The 2020 also has two slots for M.2 SSD, where older models have only one and another is for SATA HDD. That was a nice suprice as M.2 is a lot faster, good for me! I wish I had 4K screen but the 1080p is good for most of what I do on it, so I can survive that. Another thing I love about it is the time it takes to fully turn it on.... I checked myself and it only takes around 10sec. This is nice :) Also, even when the laptop runs on max, it never overheats, its very efficient, thinking it only has two small fans on the bottom. It's very good, well... maybe a little overpriced compared to other laptops with the same stuff inside, but still My favourite so far... :D

It's a monster. in a good way.
So, first the battery. If you are using it just for browsing, watching videos, or small tasks, it will take you about 2 hours to empty it. If you try to game, then it's "game over " for battery, maybe 45 min. In that case you have to keep it plugged. And this is coming the second criteria. Sound from ventilation. It's insane when NVIDIA start working. I'm not used with that. I have an M1 MacBook Pro , witch also have a small fan, but I don't here it when I start playing a game, or when I use vitual machine. But, I understand that it must be noisy. And with this comes heat. A lot. I changed the cooling paste from GPU and CPU, and it's better now. Anything else it's exactly what you would expect from a very good machine. I'm not complaining about battery, sound or heat, just telling that they are present.

The 2018 model was better
Having owned the 2018 model for 2 years, I can say how disappointed I was to receive the 2020 base model. While it's nice to have WiFi 6 and an extra PCIe slot to work with, there's very little difference and actually more downsides overall. Firstly, I'm pretty disappointed in RAZER for removing per-key illumination on the Base model, which used to be included as standard, so that they can get more money out of customers for their "Advanced" model. The ports are almost identical (though the 2020 model has ethernet). The 2018 model was also thinner and significantly quieter than the 2020 model. For these reasons, I will be returning it and going back to my old model for a few years until RAZER hopefully gets their act together. For everyone else, I'd suggest you pick up a used 2018 model instead of buying this new. You'll pay half the price and get better quality.
