YRYM HT Candle Making Kit – Easy to Make Colored Candle Soy Wax Kit Include Wax, Rich Scents, Dyes, Wicks, Tins & More

Great kit, did my first batch in 2021, did my second batch today 4 years later. As you can tell I am a very amateur hobbiest, this kit was extremely easy to use and impossible to mess up, will buy new wax to keep going with the basics from this kit.

The scents don't really come out and the colors don't always end up like I expected, but laugh and consider the surprises part of the fun. The end results burned really well - big flames that melted the wax just right. Don't limit yourself to the tins provided; I made some great candles in festive drinking glasses, jam jars, ceramic ice cream cups, I even used a salad dressing cruet (very cool looking! I will try to come back and add a pic later.) It seems a bit expensive up front, but we managed to make a lot of little candles and that was the bulk of our holiday gifts this year to family and neighbors, so the end result saved us a lot of possible cash outlay. (Think of it like giving a plate of homemade Xmas cookies - but you don't have to worry about if people are diabetic or avoiding gluten or a different religion or whatever!) Grandparents were especially delighted. Not good for real pros, but a fun project. It worked ok for me, but didn't really capture my kids interest. (They got much more into the candles where you roll sheets of bees wax.) I wouldn't say I would buy this again, because one kit is enough to start then just buy extra materials. I'm still using the boiling can, but now have bought additional wax and colors. I gave up on the scents.

I love the fig and white tree scented candles, but they’re expensive! So I decided to make my own. This kit seemed like the best out there. It offered the pot, wicks, wax, thermometer, wick holders, stir sticks, and sticky dots to hold the wicks in place. It arrived quickly and I got to work. Everything was perfect - until the wick holder… The picture shows a metal holder that appears to be able to center the wick over multiple size openings. What I GOT was a wooden popsicle stick with a hole in the middle to put the wick through. Soooo not the same thing. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars. If it included what was pictured, I’d give it the full 5. I’ve made my first batch of candles and they seem to have turned out great!

Having made many candles before in sort of a “just winging it” fashion via old pot and bulk cheap wax with store bought scents, this kit elevated my candle making hobby and allowed me to produce professional looking candles with ease. I would recommend purchasing an adjustable hot plate that has a low setting, using a scale in grams to measure your wax out (I filled the tins from the kit with loosely packed wax from the kit then multiplied that amount by 1.75 and ended up with the perfect amount of wax), and lastly I would invest in more scented oils and wax color chips as food coloring doesn’t work as well. The thermometer that comes with the unit take a few minutes to accurately read the temperature as it seems to read a temp for about 30-45 seconds then jump up to the next temperature increment pause for 30-45 seconds and jump again until it finally settles on a consistent temp. I trust the temp it gives me as I verified it with both a laser heat reader and a standard candy thermometer and they were all within a degree or two of one another. The scents that come with the kit are decent but not really enough given the amount of wax that you are given in the kit based on the directions that come with it, which had quite a few grammatical typos. However all in all for the price you are paying and what you get, this is definitely a wonderful starter pack to build off of if you end up enjoying making your own candles.

O! M! G! This kit is amazing. It comes with everything you need, including a digital thermometer. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. In less than 10 minutes, I already had a candle made. I used the lavender scent and it smells great. I used the blue color and it is bright and beautiful. I cannot wait to make more candles with this kit.

I wanted to try out making candles and this was a cool way to try. It comes with everything you need. The scents are okay. I would probably want different scents but it’s a great test run.

The instruction book is terrible. I will offer my pointers here to hopefully guide first time users! First, I did not get the four bow tie clips pictured, instead I received four popsicle sticks with holes in the middle. Second, I got round tins and melting the suggested 210 grams of wax (as shown in video) was too much. I ended up having to throw some out. When coloring the wax, the instructions say to "add one dye chip for every 210 g of wax". I received the dye in one large flower thus one chip was meaningless. I ended up chopping a pedal of the flower off (see image) and that yielded a beautiful blue wax. When measuring the wax, the instructions should tell you to not let the thermometer rest on the bottom of the melting pot. I used the popsicle sticks with holes in the middle to suspend the thermometer (see image). When adding the essential oils, the kit does not provide enough according to their own manual (30 mL per 450 g wax comes to 14 mL for 210 g wax) when the supplied oils are only in 10 mL bottles. Additionally, I am not a fan of the scents they sent, I will be purchasing other scents for my next candle (this could just be my personal preference but there still isn't enough oil for the suggested amount of wax). By my calculations, the wax for this kit (2.2 lbs = 997 g) should make ~5 candles. The wooden stir sticks aren't reusable and there are only four tins provided. These aren't a huge deal but worth mentioning. My first candle is setting now, I will edit the review once I am able to burn it. All in all, despite my many comments, the kit is still fun and enjoyable!

Great kit for the money. We had to look up instructions, so I’ll save you some time - melt over a double boiler twice the amount of unmelted wax that fits in your container. We used a sticker but it came off as soon as we poured the wax - I’m still not sure what the stickers are for. We used yogurt jars, which are perfect. We will get some wax crayons to add in for different colors. Seemed to be clean burning. Kids had a lot of fun with this easy craft. I see a lot of gift-making in our future.
