Best knife I've ever had
This knife is exactly what I wanted and what I thought it would be. Extremely sharp right out of the box. Well made, easy open but it doesn't open unexpectedly. The marlinspike is sturdy and very useful. I work on the water and carry this on my hip every day.

Quality Sailing Knife
The blade holds a sharp edge. The locking mechanism for the marlin spike and blade is excellent. The nylon belt case does not last. I bought a leather belt case from a third party.

Metal filings caused a loud, grinding knife opening
On the positive side first, this knife is beautiful, beefy, and made with good craftsmanship. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of five is because on the same day I received the knife, opening and closing the blade a number of times caused metal filings to move between the locking mechanism and the blade. This caused a rough opening and a grinding noise. After I diagnosed the problem, I simply blew out the debris. The blade now opens and closes with no grinding problems, but it doesn't open and close now quite as smoothly as it first did. I think the metal debris etched the parts that move against each other. It concerns me that over time this light friction will wear the parts prematurely. I think better cleaning at the factory after the knife was assembled would have prevented this problem. The following is an edit to the comment above. It finally occurred to me that I should lubricate the locking mechanism. So, I sprayed a very small amount of silicone lube in it. The slight friction that I spoke of above that occurred after I cleaned out the filings is now completely gone. The knife opens and closes a smoothly as it did the first time I opened the blade. So, I changed this from 3 stars to 4 stars. I would've given it 5 stars if I hadn't been required to go through this hassle. But it's a small hassle considering that I own a fantastic knife.

i love this knife, had several for many years. love the awl for undoing knots and many other uses. i always have it on me . the one neg is the little lanyard attachment is not strong at all. do not trust it. it pulls right out.

Would be great except for dinky lanyard ring
I purchased this primarily for the Marlinespike. It's a very sturdy tool. The locking mechanism for the blade is a bit awkward for one-handed operation in my opinion. The biggest disappointment is the dinky lanyard clip. It is literally thinner than a paper clip, and I question whether it would even hold up very long with a lanyard. For a rigging knife, having a reliable lanyard is very important so the tool doesn't go overboard or even worse hits somebody if it falls. Because the hole that holds the lanyard ring is so small, you couldn't thread a decent sized lanyard through the knife directly if you removed the flimsy ring.

Great knife!
I got this for my hubby for his b-day, he loves it! It's the nicest knife he's ever owned and the most useful for untying really tight knots. And of course it cuts great too!

Essential, daily tool, for an active boatman, and handyman.
I wear mine religiously, every day, and the beautiful, functional design is a joy to behold, and even better to use.
