Engelbert Live[DVD]

My Mom is a Nursing Home Resident. Since the start of the Pandemic all in person live music entertainment stopped. I bought several Music Concert DVD's for the Activities Director to play for the Residents with my Mom's favorites in mind. Last week the Activities Director told me in tears how much the Residents loved the music. They sang all the songs, laughed & smiled. Some danced in their seats. Best of all, my Mom got up & danced with one of the other ladies & the Activities Director. Thank you for the quality DVD that added to the quality of life for the Seniors at Fall River HealthCare Nursing & Rehab, Fall River, MA 🥰

Engelbert Humperdinck in this live performance from the Forum in Los Angeles in 1995, has the same amazing vocal range, breath control and smooth sound he had in the late '60s and '70s when he had his own television show, and pop hits like "Release Me" and the romantic ballads that made him a superstar, in fact he is quoted in the liner notes as saying "time gives you more experience, and I sing with more depth now because I draw on that experience whenever possible". This is a terrific concert, and a lot of the credit goes to the fabulous arranger/musical director Bebu Silvetti, who has done so much marvelous work with top Latin music stars like Luis Miguel and Rocio Durcal. He weaves his magic here with lush arrangements and superb musicianship, and in the section that takes place in a recording studio ("Smoke Gets in Your Eyes") and the duo with Engelbert and Bebu on piano ("The Shadow of Your Smile"), one can tell that these two men have a rapport and admiration of each others' skills and talent. Engelbert is also backed by an wonderful trio of singers, and one of them, Michaela, gets to show how well she can sing solo with a stupendous "Malagueña", and she also sings a duet with Engelbert ("When I Fall in Love"). In "Quando, Quando, Quando", he really lets loose, dancing as well as singing. He looks good in the first half in black with a silver waistcoat, and in the second half in a purple flounced shirt. The final two numbers are extraordinary..."Unchained Melody" is fantastic, and his "Ave Maria" encore sublime. Total running time is 2 hours. The DVD extras include a long interview that takes place in Engelbert's home in England, a great old house on 25 acres of land, with many gardens designed by his wife; he tells stories of his life, which is quite fascinating, and a combination of hard work, fate, and God's blessings. There is also a "photo gallery" with a few photos, most of them seen in the interview section. The "Englebert Live" concert DVD has me enchanted! It features music from his "Love Unchained" &"Yours" albums. Enge is accompanied by an orchestra conducted by legendary Latin composer/producer Bebu Silvetti, who also arranged , conducted & produced the 2 albums! The music is beautiful, the songs, classic & Englebert is as breathtaking as always!! If You do not already own the 2 albums & this DVD you are missing something truly, truly special!!!

I will watch this over & over again! What a gift I gave to myself . He sounds sooooo good - what a great voice - so strong and appealing. I love him ! I loved this DVD so much I had to share it. I sent it to my favorite sister in-law as a gift just because !

He's amazing that he still has the energy at his old age !!! And the voice still sound great !!!

First of all I don't have a VHS player. But I couldn't find the DVD anywhere. So I had it transferred. This concert by Engelbert Humperdinck recorded in Birmingham England in 1990 is absolutely sublime. Many new songs and of course a medley of his hits. Some unexpected but fun covers of The Wonderer and Wild Thing! A powerful and emotional rendition of If You Love Me. Honestly, this man could sing the phone book and I would be there.

This concert was wonderful!!!!! The selection of songs are the most beautiful and so romantic. The Bebu Silvetti Orchestra was outstanding. I highly recommend this DVD. You won't be disappointed and you just can't go wrong getting this DVD. After just a few songs, Engelbert warms up and really put on a superb performance. Then there is the special performance with Michaela who sang a Nat King Cole Song entitled "When I Fall in Love" with Engelbert and then she sings the Spanish song"Malaguena" alone which was sung absolutely perfect. She has quite a vocal range in this and really impressed me. This DVD is a must have. It has all the songs you need to hear him sing. I love it second best to the Tom Jones Live in Cardiff Castle DVD which is also out now and another absolute must have with all the Tom Jones greatest songs and some newer ones too, like The Boy From Nowhere and Kiss. He still has it also in a big way.

This is a wonderful performance. Very high class with an excellent orchestra and conductor, and Engelbert sounds really great. Unlike some of his later videos, this one doesn't have rock and roll or moon-walking or any of what I feel (my personal opinion) are inappropriate songs and dances for him. He has always been noted for his romantic ballads and this DVD is a great example of that. This is my favorite performance.

1980年にオリンピックの前夜祭、ソウルソングフェスティバルに出演して以来のライブ映像となっている。このライブは、前夜祭から１０年後のもので、エンゲルの年齢も５４歳くらいのものと思う。精悍な感じが薄れた分、エンターティナーとしてのパフォーマンスは、見る人聞く人の心を全く飽きさせることがなく、見終わった後は、一冊の小説ないしは、1つの名画を見終わった後に似た感覚を味わえる。それにしても、エンゲルの声は、どうして聞く人の心をこうも暖かく包み込むのか。時には、やさしく、時には、熱く、時にはコミカルに、そして、時には、激しく。エンターティナーは、数多いけれど、三十数年も世界中のコンサートホールを満員にできるシンガーは、数少ない。このライブは、エンゲルにしては比較的小さなホールで、伴奏も小編成になっている。 いつも、大きなホールと大編成のオーケストラとバックコーラスで歌うエンゲルもいいが、今回のように、観客と間近にコミュニケートしながら、歌うエンゲルもなかなか味わい深いものを感じる。 エンゲルファンに限らず、本物のエンターティメントを味わいたい方は、このライブをコレクションの1つにどうぞ。
