The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary

This book is just what I hoped it would be! For years my wife and I have been using an OLD small 5" X 7" 1/2" thick (thin!) dog-eared, pages falling out, out of print wonderful book of Scrabble-acceptable words. Though it listed 30,000 some words, there were no definitions, most plural forms weren't shown, and overall it was just out of date (probably 35 years old, at least!). This wonderful tome has settled a number of discussions already, and we have only had it a couple of weeks. I purchased the large print edition just to make looking up any words easier, but I realized a secondary advantage. Being larger than the pocketbook edition will allow for a longer life because I won't be tempted to break the back of the book to read parts of it! Actually, I bought two editions; my mother is getting one for Christmas, and she's in her mid 80's! Whenever we visit word games like Scrabble, Upwards, Boggle and the like cause many a controversy over spelling and word usage. This will definitely help to keep the peace. The layout of the book is easy to understand and use, has many helpful hints concerning word searching, and overall is well worth the small price we invested. Yes, I realize it does not contain all the words one might use. But then, neither am I a professional Scrabble Player. This is an excellent book for home use, and even for those playing at a little higher level. If that is the use you intend for it, backing up Dad on the homefront, or keeping Sis as the final authority, rest assured you won't be disappointed!

Loving the Scrabble dictionary. Now there's no more sheepish looking around for a "layman's" dictionary while playing Scrabble, and many official Scrabble words are not in the regular dictionary. And no more Scrabble squabbles! This official version puts to rest any questioning looks from across the board. Who new "qat" was a word? And having learned it prior to a recent game, "qat" helped us build the board north when it was going hopelessly south. I'm having fun learning new Q, J, X and Z words for those formerly heart-sinking moments nearing the end of the game and drawing one of them. A great gift for Scrabble lovers. Nice big print, user-friendly, easy to carry to any game. With all the interest in keeping the brain healthy and sharp as we age, learning new Scrabble words and playing games and puzzles help the brain to stay agile and functional. Who knew Scrabble and this dictionary were actually good for your health!! I will be getting another to give to a friend as a gift. You simply can't play Scrabble without it!

This out of print book arrived early, was in better condition than described and my eyes are grateful. Playing Scrabble is fun again!

I put off getting one of these because of the expense of it. But since it came as a package deal with my Scrabble game along with a score pad, I decided to get it. Boy was I glad I did. It has a lot of words to get you out of a sticky situation when you have letters that you are sure you can't use. You look in the dictionary, and there is a word that you didn't know existed. I helped a lot the other evening when I was playing with my daughter. We both found out that we were using it more than we thought we would. It was one of the best purchases I have made in a while.

My wife and I enjoy a game of Scrabble, but our old Oxford American dictionary seemed to be missing so many words that we knew were valid that we decided to get one that was actually geared towards Scrabble itself. There are definitely a LOT more words in this one, including all the little weird ones that you try to remember for those 'gotcha' moments during a game. Don't expect long definitions, though - many words have barely one word definitions, so although this will prove a word is valid in a game, you will need to go on the web or have a more comprehensive dictionary around if you want a more concise explanation of meaning. Great book, though - and nice and compact for carrying around.

Having played Scrabble off and on for years and used opponent's dictionary, I finally decided to get my own. Don't understand why some words are "legal" but it's a good aid for learning new words. For people who really enjoy playing Scrabble, strongly recommend. However, our more favorite word game is KEESDROW which can be played with so many variations and at such varied levels of difficulty that it's wonderful for kids or for adults, or even played by just one person. And it can be played for a few minutes or longer, as desired. We never end a Scrabble game until all the letters are used, but sometimes it's not selected for game time because it can take so long.

A senior with aging eyes is using this dictionary on a daily basis and very happy.

The book was second hand but I felt the cover was a bit tatty so wrote to supplier and they were very good and gave me a discount.we play scrabble a lot so this book which is in big print is very useful..very pleased with it..shipping takes a while as it came from USA but worth the wait

This bood is definitely large print. My mother has troubles seeing the print on most books and so we ordered this large print edition. It is perfect. If seeing the printed page is difficult for you this will make it much easier. The book is a bit on the large size but that is the sacrifice you make for being able to see the print. This edition is also very concise and has a good selection of words for the game. The large print makes it very easy to find the word you are looking for and makes the game more enjoyable.

I am new to scabble and hoping to start a scrabble club in the future. I have found this dictionary easy to use and learning new words every day.
