NYOS Quantum 160 Protein Skimmer for up to 265 Gallons

I've used many skimmers in the past (AquaC, Reef Octopus, Skimz, etc) and the Nyos Quantum 160 easily out skims all of them. Upgraded from a Skimz SM161 and this skimmer pulls out more skimmate out of my 125 gallon SPS reef (very high bioload) in a week than the other skimmed out in a month.Pros:Looks GoodFantastic footprintEasy to tune (set and forget)Easy to clean collection cup (can reach everywhere)Price (499.99 is cheap for what you get here)Absolutely SilentEcotech Warranty Support!Cons:Tons of microbubbles when breaking in ~2 weeks (tapers off to a few microbubbles after break in)Acrylic feels thinner and lighter than other brandsCollection cup can be difficult to remove or tighten (becomes a non issue after you figure out where to grab for best leverage)Somewhat small collection cup, though there is a drain port so this may not effect your specific setup

I never review products, but i feel compelled to say "worth every penny"Amazed on how quick this dialed in, and it's virtually silent..

I got this pump a little over a year ago in anticipation of moving from Colorado to Japan when I retired from the Air Force. My plan was to set up my final GIANT aquarium. This skimmer was going to be my skimmer. The pump for this was broke right out of the box. It never came on. The seller told me they can't help me because it's been a little over a year since I bought it. They want a LOT of money for this protein skimmer. I didn't use it for a year. Or even a single day. But even if I'd had it for a year before it crapped out, this would be a garbage value. Save your money please. Apart from that the unit is VERY pretty. Looks great. Not a protein skimmer, but looks gorgeous.

This skimmer is absolutely gorgeous and is a work horse straight out of the box. Lots of micro bubbles at first which was concerning but with a week or 2 it becomes a non issue. Would purchase this product again with out hesitation.

For a ~$500 piece of equipment, I expect it to go together when I take it out of the box. Unfortunately, the body of the skimmer was not drilled correctly and so did not line up with the pump inlet when putting the product together, meaning I had to return it after spending an hour trying to put it together. For a product line that claims to be the best quality and is so superior, they can’t even get quality assurance correct. Would not recommend.

Started producing skimate after a day in use. Very quiet and built well.Only con is the power draw. The spec says 18 watts however, 2 different testers say 56 watts. Perhaps the rating is running out of the water? Give the power draw is a little over 3x the stated spec and power draw is critical in socal, have to go with 3 stars.

it took a week or so to dial it in but now that its running right it works perfect for my 180g reef tank

Beautiful design and very quiet. I do not have a heavy bioload with a weekly 10% water change and still after 1 day it was pulling thick skimmate. The price made me a bit nervous at first, but after experiencing it in action, I couldn't be happier!!
