Planted during the hottest month in history. Growing great
First off, the service from Todd's is very good. They ship on Mon or Tues so you get your grass Wed or Thurs. It shows up a little yellow, but if you water the trays and let them sit out overnite on a damp beach towel, they green up by morning.I live in a suburb of Phoenix and July 2023 was the hottest month ever recorded for any city in the US. So, of course, I planted my grass in several batches from late June to mid August. If you water it 5 or 6 times per day for the 1st week or 2, it will get established even if its 115 everyday. The 1st pic is the grass i planted June 30 after 45 days or so. The 2nd pic is the grass i planted July 14.Seems to be perfect for the desert

Poor condition
I received my 2 flats of plugs. They where half dead when we got the. We immediately planted them. Most of the plugs have died. Very disappointing

Great so far!
Planted with 9" spacing. 2.5 months in and mostly filled in. Dog tore up one small section 1 month in and replanted with success.

two trays were pretty brown. I immediately took them out and laid ...
So, I ordered grass off Amazon. Never thought I'd be saying that!I ordered 20 trays of the UC Verde Buffalograss. I over-ordered a little because I figured some would die due to my ineptitude or in-transit.When the trays arrived in their boxes they were mostly all green, two trays were pretty brown. I immediately took them out and laid them out in my yard where they could get sun and I watered them.It took me about a month to get them all planted. I didn't count on how long it would take me. My yard had ludicrously hard ground in one part so I bought a 9 1/2 amp drill with an augur, after that the work went a lot faster. At first I was terrified because almost all of the grass I planted immediately turned brown. I am talking over 90%. I thought I basically threw away over a thousand dollars. However, almost all of the plugs recovered and began sending up new blades and runners after about 3-4 weeks. Now it has been almost two months since I planted the first plugs and they are growing bigger and bigger and sending out runners (stolons). I anticipate I will have most of a lawn by late September, though there will probably be a few patches there the plugs just died and those will have to be filled in by the surrounding plugs.Anyway, I highly recommend. The grass looks nice and it is very soft and fine. I am currently still watering it heavily even though it has been in the ground for a month because it hit 115 degrees here the other day. In a couple of weeks I will begin weaning the grass off of the daily watering until I can get it down to that once-per-week watering that is advertised for the stuff. Can't wait.Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five is because I am still waiting for it to grow in so I can't tell you how great it is as a complete lawn yet, I haven't yet been able to reduce watering so I can't tell you how truly drought resistant it is, and a couple of trays weren't in the best shape on arrival, but I figured that would happen and ordered a couple extra. One thing I can say is it seems to tolerate dog urine reasonably well. My dogs make it a point to go and aim right on the plugs, even though there is still plenty of yard not filled with brand-new, expensive grass. So far the plugs seem to be surviving the abuse. The dogs love the grass. When they trays were laid out they kept trying to lie on them, and now I keep having to yell at them to stop munching on my plugs and eating the new growth. I might as well have goats instead of dogs at this point.

Love it
I have planted UC Verde at 2 homes in LA and Santa Barbara. In LA it barely went dormant, in Santa Barbara for a 2-3 months. I believe sunlight and warmth are both factors in dormancy. It needs sunlight to grown. If planting in shadier areas, place plugs closer together. You can also grow it in the sunnier spots and transplant. If the roots are deep, it will transplant easily. If roots aren't deep, may turn brown then eventually regenerate. Although it hasn't rained much in Santa Barbara, I've only watered it 3 times 5 minutes a piece from December to m/e April. Now that we are done with rain and it's getting warmer hope to keep around 5-8 mts a week with the sprinklers
