An attack in the night!
This well-written and illustrated book brings to reality how dangerous the saltwater crocodile can be! We first read of a couple attacked whilst camping in northern Australia. They survived but only thanks to the quick actions of some of their party. This is a KILLER reptile that can grow to 20ft and 2,000lbs. (Weights etc are provided in both imperial and metric.)How many teeth do they have? With them they can apply a pressure of 2,000lbs per square inch! WOW! Due to being a protected species, they are now invading people's space as their numbers have grown quite substantially.Advice is given on how to survive and avoid an attack. The author does say that only 20-30 attacks happen a year. I would suspect that that number is WAY low. Another book we read (Record Breaking Animals) said that it was estimated that around 2,000 people were killed and eaten each year by the salties.This is an excellent book though - keeps the children's attention. A glossary is provided at the end. Great for a read aloud or for independent readers. A good book to add to your home library.
