Tolkien Calendar 2021 Paperback – September 1, 2020

Among the many artists who are at work today illustrating the works of J.R.R. Tolkien three stand out as paramount: Ted Nasmith, John Howe, and Alan Lee. In the Tolkien Calendar for 2021 the fortunate viewer has thirteen masterpieces from all three artists, all of them illustrating scenes taken from Unfinished Tales, Christopher Tolkien's collection of some of his father's uncompleted but tantalizing writings. Unfinished Tales was first published forty years ago, and this calendar serves as an appropriate acknowledgement of its historic importance in Tolkien scholarship.Unfinished Tales contains material from the First, Second, and Third Ages of Arda, and the scenes depicted in this calendar are drawn from all three periods. Each of the three artists has his own style, but they mesh well together. I find much to admire in the three styles, from Nasmith's magnificent craggy land and seascapes depicting momentous events in Middle-earth history, Lee's lovely and evocative scenery that captures the emotions of the event depicted, and Howe's tense battle scenes between dragons, men, elves, dwarves, and orcs or the brooding menace of a Ringwraith entering the Shire.The calendar grid contains the moon's phases, "real world" US and religious holidays, and notes the publication dates of Tolkien's major works. A fine introduction by Brian Sibley helps viewers who may be less familiar with Unfinished Tales or the three artists to appreciate the work. This is a beautiful calendar which will enhance the room in which it hangs and delight Tolkien fans throughout the year.

A beautiful full sized calendar. The illustrations are just gorgeous, but my favorite part is the fact that some of the dates that are significant to Tolkien, such as the publishing's of some of his books and his birthday, are marked on the calendar. You won't have an excuse to not celebrate the publishing of your favorite Tolkien book this year :)

This calendar has works by several different artists who have contributed to past Tolkien Calendars. Nice to see Tolkien's other works represented. A nice addition to a Tolkien Calendar collection.

Beautiful calendar by three of my favorite Tolkien artists. Some familiar but new scenes and some totally novel ones. A great addition!

I wish the calendar was larger to write on, otherwise perfect . Just in time for the Northmoor Project to begin. It's a charity to save JRR Tolkien's house.

Muito boas as ilustrações. Assim como o de 2020, que teve como tema o livro O Hobbit, este de 2021 tem todas as ilustrações baseadas nos principais eventos tratados no livro Contos Inacabados (de Númenor e da Terra Média).
