Southwest Wheel 3,500 lbs. Trailer Axle Electric Brake Kit 5-5" Bolt Circle

Mounted these brakes on a 2022 16' utility with 3,500# Dexter axles. Reused the Dexter axle nut and crown washer instead of the supplied axle crown nut and cotter pin as the axles were equipped with EZ-Lube so the cotter pin will not work. Packed the bearings with grease and then added more grease after everything was installed with the Dexter EZ-Lube grease fitting. Will recheck axle nuts after a few hundred miles. Kit included all hardware needed to install. Had to also buy a wiring kit and a new 7 wire cable kit.Great value and a huge savings from what the dealer wanted to charge to add brakes. All the components looked to be of the highest quality. Very happy with this brake kit.

as I opened each box of 2 brake drums and backing plates one had the bearings and some some of the parts for all 4 brake assembles and as I started to put things together the first thing I found was that there was no nuts or lock washers 16 each required. After a trip to a supply house I installed the backing plates with the brake assemblies. after wiring the breaks I moved on to the brake drums.. The first three everything went well then the forth drum a problem showed up in the outer bearing did not fit. After checking I found that the outer bearing was not the correct bearing for the system. There was grease in the bearing so it was not a new unit. after getting a new bearing the rest of the job was easy. After each problem I sent a email to the supper I have yet receive any return emails. This does not speak well of the company to not respond to a customer

All you add is grease and these bolt on to the existing bracket on the axle. Comes with drum, bearings, washer and castle nut. There's no shortage of videos you can find as this is certainly a DIY job if you're being proactive. I added brakes to the rear axle only per some advice on a forum. They add weight to the trailer if you're adding them and that counts towards GVW. States may have requirements as to how many you must have. My trailer had broken a spring in a very unfortunate place so the task of replacing the old hubs with these new brakes was made much more difficult than this needed to be. Get your trailer off the ground, supported safely, and level and you'll have these on in no time. Have a long thin flat blade screwdriver for setting the brake tension. I haven't wired mine and set the brake controller yet. Maybe I'll come back and update this review.

This is the best bang for the buck kit. I went through piecing together from other vendors and while a couple combos were a touch cheaper they were missing the backing plat nuts and washers or their reviews weren’t the greatest.To be sure of my order I measured up my spindles bearing journals, wheel bolt pattern and backing plate bolt pattern for my 3500# axles. These kits came complete and exactly what I needed to get my trailer setup with all 4 brakes. Each brake is marked right or left on the sticker to aid in install.I left the brakes set where they came fromThe factory. After the first 100 miles of break IMO will revisit adjustment. I coupled these brakes with a Reece progressive brake controller. The brakes engage smoothly and provide the stopping power to keep me safe when towing my equipment.

All the parts were there but I did have a scare because one of the backing plate studs had fallen out. It was still there but hidden behind the magnet arm and shoe. Everything went together like it should. I did have to adjust the shoes out quite a bit to get the proper drag on the drums. They do seem weaker than the brakes on the other axle however I have not pulled the trailer yet and broken in these new brakes. Once broken in these should perform just fine.

Easy to install and works as expected, i was a bit scared since a lot of reviews said they came with missing parts, but mine arrived perfectly and before expected so thats a plus! I use it to haul a 5klb scissor lift and have the power to slow it down.The magnet only has 2 cables with the same color that means that either one can be the positive and the ground so no problem on that, make sure to drive it rhe first few miles on the maximum braking power so the braking pads take the shape evenly.Would buy again
