Tama makes the best, Mic Stands.
I've been using Tama microphone stands for many years now and whenever I use something else, it's just not good enough. Compared to the Tama, other stands feel wobbly and flimsy and the hardware just feels subpar. All of the clamping hardware on the Tamas are very high quality and hold very well. This is by far my favorite microphone stand. Sure, they're a little more expensive, but they're well worth it in the long run and once you get used to the feel of these, you'll never want to go back to other brands.

Wel built and sturdy.
I play in a small group performing at assisted living homes and civic events. IMy old, cheap stand ws on its last legs (literally) and I replaced it with the TAMA 250. You can feel the quality and build quality when tightening and loosening the hardware and, in my opinion, is well worth the extra few bucks.

Tama MS205 Boom Mic Stand, TAMA Stands for Quality!!!
Biggest bang for the buck and it’s bullet proof. I own 6 of these, using them in the studio and on the road. I'm probably like you in regards to boom mic stands. Necessary evil but even the high end boom mic stands are really not worth the money since they are very cheaply made. Tama MS205 made in China yes, but you won't be disappointed with this Chinese made product. Right out of the box you will find Tama's quality written all over this stand. It even comes with an owner’s manual. I'm a singer songwriter, guitarist, and drummer. I've had my share of boom mic stands over the many years (45) and this stand will take all you can give it then some. I'll try to break it down for you with some verbiage. First of all I’ve got 6 of these boom mic stands. From the top, expect quality from Tama, you won’t be disappointed. On the end of the boom is a removable 3/8” mic holder with locking nut. All the hardware on this stand is top shelf Tama quality. The boom extends 26” from the tilter boss to the end where the mic screws on to the boom. Tama calls it 32” but that is the entire length of the boom including the end piece. Usable boom length is 26”. The actual boom knurled thumb locking screw is about the size of a US quarter dollar, diameter of ¾” and about 5/16” thick. It’s very comfortable to operate, with a strong internal locking ring. The tilter locking handle is not your usual flimsy wimpy paper clip diameter that bends when you even try to tighten the tilter. It is not pot metal but real chromed steal just what you would expect from Tama, one of the best drum manufacturers in the industry. TAMA's unique boom tilter clamps the arm holder much more securely than standard designs, which only pinch the holder at two narrow points. Instead the TAMA design holds the arm with the entire interior surface of the U-clamp. This is one of the things you will appreciate about this boom mic stand since it stays where you put it with no sagging half way through your gig. Go to Tama’s website and catch a look at this tilter or see attached photo, the quality will surprise you, it did me. The height adjustment grip-lock is a little larger than some boom mic stands, which is a good thing. Three flanged tangs on the grip-lock fit the palm of the hand quite nicely. Speaking about adjustment; this stand will collapse to 38” from the floor and extend to 63” from the floor. The 63” measurement is with the upper vertical tube fully extended and measuring from the floor to the top where the tilter is screwed onto the vertical upper tube. If it matters to you, know that this boom mic stand comes in either chrome finish or powder coated black. I have the powder coated black. Moving on down the stand to the lower vertical tube, which is very sturdy with no rattle from the upper tube. The base is stable having three substantial foldable leg tubes with rubber, not vinyl, tips. Speaking of tips, do yourself a favor buy this boom mic stand and save yourself some aggravation. The base is held in place with a typical wing bolt but again it is very sturdy and rugged. Addendum: Before I bought these 6 boom mic stands, I did some homework apart from my some 45 years of experience in the music industry semi-pro. I looked at a few reviews and one especially caught my eye. This guy was a sound tech., gaffer who had been on the road with countless gigs under his belt. He said that of all the boom mic stands he had experience with, this Tama stood up to any and all the gorilla strong arms in any of the bands he set up for. I will echo this guy’s sentiment. You will have no worries of failure with this high quality boom mic stand and it will do just that, Stand. Stand up to any and all you can throw at it. Do yourself a favor and check this boom mic stand out. You also might want to check out Ken Stanton music for a better visual comparison. It might surprise you. Oh, there’s also a parts breakdown to be had at Tama’s web link. I can’t paste it here due to amazon’s web link limitations. Do a search for their web site on the net and take a look at the pdf file. Well, here I am with The Rapaputy Band signing off. Hope this review helps you make a strong ‘Stand’ with the ‘Boom’ of your voice through the ‘Mic’ of your choice. www dot Rapaputy dot com.

It's really solidly built and can handle a lot of weight. It's expensive, yes, but it will last a while and isn't at risk of tipping over like the cheaper, lighter stands are. Would 100% recommend for any application where reliability and durability are a must, eg. in actual professional studios or larger home studios.
