Prisma’s Unabridged Swedish-English/English-Swedish Dictionary

In the preface this dictionary claims it has pronunciation for all Swedish entries. This is a big lie. It has no pronunciation at all for the Swedish entries. What it has is a ridiculous 2-page information on the pronunciation of Swedish letters, something one can find on the net easily. Ironically,although it was published by the University of Minnesota press, it seems more geared to Swedish people learning English because in the English-Swedish part all words have pronunciation in the IPA. A dictionary that doesn't show pronunciation is virtually worthless. In short, if you're a translator(who couldn't care less about pronunciation) it may have some use for you. But if you're trying yo learn Swedish, be warned that you won't get any help at all concerning pronunciation from this very expensive dictionary. The cost/benefit ratio leaves a lot to be desired.

Happy with it. It has both Swedish-English and English-Swedish. The only sad thing is that it’s very old.

This dictionary is the only dictionnary you would need if you were trying to find words in Swedish. The picture on Amazon show it like it was not so big but, it is actually a very thick dictionnary with a complete list of words and more. The cover is also made of a thick and resist material that won't tire up after a few use. I highly recommend it.

I would highly recommend this dictionary. I am living in Sweden and I am currently taking Swedish classes to learn Swedish. This is the UNABRIDGED version with the ENGLISH to SWEDISH also. There was another student in my class that bought the ABRIDGED version and he could not find some of the words he needed to translate. The only thing I don't like is the codes for how to conjugate the verbs etc. I find it annoying and confusing. But, I do love that when I do look up a word there are alternatives, sentences with the word, and other little details. Great dictionary.

I have had Swedish-English English-Swedish dictionaries in the past, but the Prisma dictionary is clearly superior. The price was higher than I might have expected, but the work involved in creating such a useful tool justifies its expense. I use this dictionary in conjunction with online translation websites. When I need an in-depth understanding of a word and how it is varied for the context, I consult the Prisma Dictionary. Although I hope that through study my Swedish will improve considerably, I do not anticipate any need to replace the Prisma Dictionary with another one.

Has very good introductory sections on the grammar, spelling, and sentence forms of the two languages.The book's binding is almost of a lay-flat form which gives you a free hand when making notes.

One of the biggest problems to study a foreign language is to buy a reasonably big (and updated) dictionary. I haven't had the time to assess this book thoroughly yet, but from what I can see, I don't regret my choice.

A very BIG, yet useful dictionary. It has all the words anyone learning Swedish will want to know!
