An easy tool-less upgrade to turbo charge your Maglite in under a minute.
The media could not be loaded. I already have one of the Adventure Sport Flashlights floody drop-ins for my 2D Maglite, but now I’m trying out a straight up bulb swap on a 3D Maglite I’ve purchased. This time I’m running it off of some NIMH Tenergy D Cells instead of lithium ion- because why not? The drop-ins are super high quality all-in-one units, designed to be easily swapped in. As in- less than a minute with no tools required. As configured, the drop-in provides 3 modes of brightness, that you scroll through with half presses of the Maglite side switch. The swap is super easy. You’ll need: this drop-in, a 3D incandescent (mine is Model SS3D096) Maglite, and 3 high quality rechargeable D batteries. I used the Tenergy Premium D Size NIMH rechargeables. Regular alkaline or cheaper rechargeable D Cells will not provide adequate power. The steps are as follows:1. Unscrew lens and the rind that holds it and set it aside.2. Loosen head counter clockwise, but don’t remove it.3. Remove the reflector. You no longer need it for the LED module.4. Unscrew the small sleeve that holds the bulb in place. You will no longer use the bulb and sleeve.5. Pop in the module, set the black ring on top of the module in the groove.6. Put back on the lens and ring, by screwing them down.7. Tighten down the head.8. Put in freshly charged batteries. That’s it! The light is now modded, and much much brighter. You can keep the old bulb, bulb sleeve and reflector on hand for emergencies or if you’d like something a little easier on the batteries. Adventure Sport Flashlights is coming out with some conversion kits if you want to go lithium ion, but I like having a back up Maglight around the house that can run off rechargeable, or even alkaline or lithiums in an emergency. I have a lot of lights, but the Adventure Sport Maglites are two of my favorites. They always sit by the door ready to be used at night. If you need a charger recommendation that can handle up to 8 D-cells, check out the Maha PowerEx MH-C808M. I did a quick tutorial video on how to do the swap. Meh.... not as advertised
This is not a replacement for a new streamlightIt is a replacement to save the Unit you probably should throw out.I replaced my maglight hoping to make it as it represented. It didn't... but I kept it as an expensive third rate light...So... make your own opinion... I bought a Streamlight... which is Number One... this is not a bad number three...Just know what you are getting.
