Good quality bit driver.
I purchased this bit driver for my EDC tool pouch, and it has been a great addition. At only 3 5/8” long, it’s very compact and fits perfectly in my Maxpedition Micro Pouch. Despite its small size, it’s still comfortable to hold, and the ergonomic design makes it easy to apply enough torque to loosen or tighten screws. The bit retention is excellent - it securely holds every bit I’ve tried. The spring-loaded locking mechanism is simple to use: just insert a bit and it locks automatically. The overall quality is exactly what you’d expect from Wera: top notch.

Here's the Details
It got this Wera Kraftform 817R to try, as I reduce my collection of random old screwdrivers and transition more to drivers that accept interchangeable bits instead. The bit holders get most of the use lately and just make more sense overall for most tasks that I do. This feels like a quality tool. It's a simple bit-holding driver / screwdriver. The grip feels small, even though the length of the handle isn't crazy short. The tapering and contours make it feel smaller than it is. That's about my only gripe. I wish the handle was 1.5x to 2x bigger/fatter, but still kept the shape.. but then perhaps it wouldn't be as portable. The handle is a hard black plastic, with the green being a softer rubber material. Feels good, but a little fatter would be better. It arrived loose in a bag with a tag on it. No signs of use. You push down the green collar and the bit shaft is spring loaded and shoots out. After I did that initially, I thought it was stuck out and broken for a few minutes. You really have to push the green collar on the handle down very hard until it clicks, to manually retract the shaft back in. When extended, you can click down the handle collar again and pull the shaft right out if you want to use the end for an impact driver... but I don't see myself ever doing that. The bit holder end has a weak magnet to hold the bit initially, and not so strong that it interferes with disengagement. That holds the bit initially, then you pull back on the bit holder tip and it locks the bit in solid. To remove the bit, you push the end of the bit holder forward, and it unlocks, and you can now pop your bit off the magnet easily. Otherwise, it locks in solid. There is a little side play in the shaft, a tiny wiggle, but it's minimal and nothing annoying. There's no real play in rotation. It functions like a regular screwdriver. it accepts the regular 1/4th inch bits, I have laying around, well. I included the comparison pick so you can get a feel for the size and shape. There it is, next to an old school Vaco Bulldriver, A Klein #? In One, and my trusty old cheap generic ratcheting bit driver. All of these fill out the hand a little better. Fatten this guy up Wera! The Wera 817R does feel more precise, if that makes sense. If you are looking for a multi-purpose, compact bit holding screwdriver, this one fits the description. It's compact, so ideal for traveling around with and carrying in a small bag or tool pouch on the go. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

Excellent precision screwdriver, that accepts 1/4" bits!
Absolutely love this screwdriver! I was looking for a precision screwdriver that takes 1/4" bits. It feels to be of high quality, great handle design to give you plenty of grip, and it is exactly what I was looking for. I have multiple uses for a screwdriver just like this, so it is very likely that I will be ordering a few more, I will also be buying other sizes of these Wera screwdrivers, I am that impressed by this one. I always buy high quality tools, pay today, have the tool forever is my belief, and I have multiple brands from Snap-On, Craftsman, Dewalt, you name it, so believe me when I tell you this Wera bitholder absolutely has a place in my toolbag.

Don’t leave it on the floor around dogs
It’s cool. It’s very small. And I mean veerryyy small. But it was all good until a customer’s Frenchy thought it was a toy and I never saw it again.

Game changer.
I used to carry 3 or 4 screwdrivers with me, now I just carry a Wiha full shank flathead and one of these with a bitholder for my impact driver. Don't let the size fool you, with an extension or longer bits, this is as good as or better than most single function screwdrivers. I bet I carry a full pound less of tools thanks to this thing. Worth every penny.

I'd give 6 stars if I could.
The expectation was that this was going to be a really good hand tool. I am spoiled by German tools the minimum tools we buy is Bosch, but we have Fein, Festool Metabo but also Hazet and WIHA, so the expectation is already high of Made in Germany. BUT this thing is AMAZING!!! It is just a screwdriver handle for a 1/4" hex bit, BUT it locks just about any bit in place. its starts out magnetic so the bit wont fall out and the magnet keeps the fastener in place on the bit, it is just right not too strong to make it hard to use and not so weak that the faster stays on but dangles. push the ring away and the tool releases or you can put another bit in. Press either bit in OR pull the ring towards you and it is in tight. Both methods work, you get to choose. It is well balanced, and is short enough to get into most places. This thing is Amazing!!! I bought 3 more for stocking snuffers. Strong buy recommendation - great X-mas gift for any Dad

Great bit driver for the price
This is a great, small but comfortable form factor driver with a well designed quick change head. It slips nicely into a pocket or small tool pouch and holds a wide variety of bit styles from Wera or Steinwhale double sided to Leatherman flat. My favorite driver at this price point.
