The size chart seems to be in error. It seems as though the hip measurement is closer the what the waist should be. At first I ordered the XL which said the waist was 28.8 inches which although I wear a 36" pants, I had a difficult time believing I needed the XXL. The XL fit like loose boxer shorts, so I returned and order the L. The large doesn't fit like a compression short, but is a closer fit than the XL by far. These seem to fit like normal boxer briefs, not necessarily a compression short, but should be sufficient for how I'll use them.
