Gerber Gear Prybrid X EDC Multitool Pocket Utility Knife - Razor Knife with Retractable Hobby Blade and Pry Bar - Green

I just flipped the blade around. No big deal. I don’t see what’s so hard about it. I’ve been carrying itfor long enough to wear out one side. The screwdriver has came in handy a few times at work. Weare always searching for screw drivers so this is handy. A few guys have borrowed it. It’s built solidwith a multi tool feel. It’s not going to win a show us your knife contest as everyone that sees it willroll they’re eyes that it’s a razor blade. When you have to cut something its the one everyonewants. I don’t like sharpening knives and I hate dull knives so this is a winner for me. Keep in mind it’sNot a drywall knife. The weight and size isn’t there. You want to dry wall a room get a tool for that.

I received this product just a few days ago from writing this post. So far I am impressed with the quality of it, it is a solid feeling tool. In the few days I have owned it, I have used the blade, the cord cutter slot, the nail puller, and the bottle opener. The blade opens and works as it should. I like the fact that you must push down on the slide button before the blade will slide open. This keeps it from opening when I pull my phone out of my pocket. The cord cutter works as advertised. The nail puller works well in a pinch. I was pulling one nail with this tool, while my dad tried to pull another nail out with is SOG pliers. His pliers broke and I was able to pull out both nails without a problem once I figured out the method. Bottle opener works well also.As far as the "flat head screw drivers" I have not yet found these to be too useful. For reference; they will not fit in flat head screws for wall outlet covers and light switches, but it is capable of turning the screw in my lansky knife sharpener. If they were just slightly filed down it would be a bit more practical as a flaflat head, but I am happy with the strength of the pry bar so far.The tool longs for a pocket clip. With the size of this knife, I am currently running it as my primary blade, in place of my Spyderco Endura 4. The size of the tool closed is about the same size as an average EDC pocket knife. Its too long to sit flush in a change pocket. I have seen people add a pocket clip through use of the lanyard hole, but I opted to use an adhesive pocket clip, and I carry it tip up so the pry bar is not exposed. The clip I chose was the Boring Products pocket clip. I have also seen folks use the Nite Ize clips. I'm happy with my choice so far.The blade is slightly difficult to take out which I am fine with as it will hopefully limit accidents. It is still doable to remove without use of tools. I plan to continue using this as my primary EDC blade for a while. If I run into any major issues I will try and update this review.UPDATE:I've been using this tool now for over a month, carrying it every day as my primary knife. Since EDC-ing this tool, I have not missed carrying a normal folding knife. This tool is much more useful and has proven itself to me. I have not been easy on it. I have used every feature on the tool except for the wire strippers, and I do not have a lanyard attached to it. I stand by my previous statement about the "flat head" screwdriver function. It is not a practical flat head IMO as there are few screws that have a wide enough slot to utilize it.Some things I have used the tool for:Finish nailsSheetrock nailsBending fence wireOpening stubborn chainsaw gas capsPrying open paint cansOpening bottlesVarious cutting tasks from sheet rock, to clearing small brushThe nail puller is more impressive than I imagined it would be. I was on a demo job and there were not enough prybars for everybody on the crew. I pulled this out of my pocket and pulled probably over 50 Sheetrock nails from the studs, working just about as fast as the guys with the crowbars. Just a couple of "bops" and the nail was out. After that job though, I did notice the slide was much more difficult to open. Some WD40 and a few minutes of playing with it and it was mostly back to normal.One con to note is I have found that the metal slot that holds the blade in place will dull that part of the blade, so you can't have two uses out of one blade like with a typical utility knife. This is not a deal breaker, just something to note before purchasing.If I were Gerber, a couple things I would try to change:Add a pocket clip (I would have rated 5 stars if it had a clip)Make the lanyard hole slightly larger so it could also function as an oxygen bottle wrench.UPDATE MAY, 2024:Unfortunately, after continuous hard use of this tool, I lost it in the yard while mowing. I was not easy on this tool intentionally. It wouldn't break. Since I lost it and it has become an essential tool for me, I came back on amazon to buy another just like it. To my surprise, I was very pleased to see Gerber had listened to us and added a pocket clip on the new, blue tool. I purchased it right away. I have not had a chance to break it in yet but I am a fan of the clip and the new scales as well. I am even able to utilize the clip as an O2 wrench for work. I have changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. So much functionality! Thank you for listening to us, Gerber!

Relationship status: it’s complicated.The killer feature of this tool for me is the exacto knife style blade that allows precise cutting. It’s easy to over look the usefulness of this when it seems like every other edc tool out there has some kind of blade. But few blades match the agility and ease of fine manipulation that this thing provides. And it’s an excellent box cutter too, which lets face it for most people is what you will use your knife for frequently. Zero time spent sharpening it, just easily replace the blade and you are good to go. So that “super steel” folding blade in your pocket that is next to impossible impossible to sharpen can be saved for the tougher tasks that truly need it rather than dulling it up on boxes.The prybar feature is a necessary tool to have. If you don’t carry a good pry tool already you may one day find yourself in a pinch where you are tempted to use a knife or other delicate tool to pry something. And that’s a costly mistake that wrecks tools and blades. This is quite a nice pry bar because it’s long enough to get a fair amount of leverage, with a good grip and it has a notch to help with nails. This is why I bought the prybrid x, but I do already have another pry tool in my edc (the everwratchet). So for me this is just an upgrade to a more competent pry tool for the times you need to pry something tougher than the lid of a paint can. If you don’t already have an edc tool for prying then just go ahead and get this right now. It checks that box well.So it’s love right? Well not really. This thing has some shortcomings that aren’t deal breakers but… things could be better. First, there’s no clip for this thing. So are you supposed to just have this thing floating around in your pocket? Putting it in that 5th pocket of jeans seems like the solution but the prybrid is too long. It will end up poking at you when you bend and you have that cord that’s going to stick out. The next disappointment is the button to advance the blade is kind of janky. It’s hard to depress and it doesn’t slide until you get it just right. It’s not the slick smooth experience it should be, and at the risk of losing my man card I will confide to you it kind of hurts my thumb sometimes. The final gripe is just that it’s not more. In a day and age when there are so many tools with genius level engineering this thing is just a cutter and a prybar in a tool that’s not flashy or compact. It just seems like there should be more to it especially in a tool this big. What’s that Gerber? Oh you have two screw drivers built in? At this point the reality sets in…it’s probably never going to be true love. It might not be the right tool, but it’s good enough for right now. And who knows, maybe in time it will be love.Updated to add one additional star. Despite my misgivings about aspects of this tool it has surprisingly enough become my most used edc tool lately. The lack of a good carry option continues to be frustrating, and I’ve almost lost it when it fell out of my gym shorts pocket in the back seat of a car. Also I find the cord gets in the way of the pry bar when using it, and honestly I don’t think the cord is really useful for much.
