I don't think these would work well to store thick lumber or similarly heavy items. However, for long and lightweight things (pvc pipe, 2x2s, garden stakes or even an aluminum ladder) they are great. Ridiculously easy to install, although be sure to find the ceiling joists. One thing to considers is that given the length of the anchor plates, you will have to span across two or more joists rather than along a single joist (think 16 inch increments when planning the length of what you will hang). They do come with drywall anchors, but expecting those to hold over time seems very optimistic to me. The included screws are also a bit small. I used 1 1/2 inch deck screws and the hooks are very solid. In my experience you can spend a lot more money (and install time) without getting appreciably better storage.

Will meet my expectations to hang garden tools like shovels and rakes and push brooms

I had access to attic right next to garage so could verify where the screws are going. They worked Great for me as the bracket is inline with the 2x4. I love the height, just enough to clear my head but arm reach to get stuff. Not heavy duty though, I would not load it up with pressure treated lumber, I have six 2x4x8's on one side and 4 rod/reels on other. If placement does not hit stud/joists you can add one above or below ceiling first.

Bought this to get two ladders out of the way in my garage. Installation couldn't be easier - it came with screws and anchors, but I can't imagine putting much weight on this thing if it was anchored in plaster or drywall. I used my own slightly beefier screws to attach it to overhead joists, and I'm pretty sure I could do pull-ups without bending this thing. Great price compared to the other solutions I was pondering.

I had to bend them open a bit to make them work, but I knew that ahead of time, based on measurements. Channel locks and some muscle got them to 15 or so degree angles, instead of the 60 to 80? they came with. Could be cut off at bends and dowell placed through for much greater width. The tubes are hollow, I heated before bending, don't know if it was necessary, but worked.

Wanted heavy duty overhead storage and this is not. There is much better available that is also adjustable height for much less!

I installed one pair in my garage with lots of 2x4 studs loaded. Then I have one pair in my basement (where I've had a couple floods from sump pump failures). I figure not only wood, but long UV lamps and workout gear will go up there. At first, I didn't think they were exceptionally sturdy, but they'll surely hold what I need.

Nice hangers for coils of wires or extension cords, etc. Not crazy HD but useful. Supplied plastic anchors are useless. Used 3/16 HD screws for good support. Good purchase. Saved lots of space.
