In the spring and early summer, CBs look for nesting sites. They check out old tunnels for possible reuse, and new wood to bore into. Besides damage to the wood, woodpeckers sometimes tear up your building looking for tasty larvae. Then there are the annoying or possibly entertaining dogfights or threats to familly members. Carpenter bees are difficult to control. Once they have drilled into your building, it is hard to kill them with insecticides, which if used are harmful to other beneficial insects and birds. and humans... take it from me... I recently did a quick draw with bee and hornet spray. Unfortunately I failed to notice that the nozzle was pointed at my right eye, and got an eyeful. Surprising and painful, but no permanent damage. I also learned that CBs can laugh!
