East Africa Birds (Nature Observation International) Pamphlet – April 14, 2015

I went to Kenya on safari last year and what a great addition this guide was. Highlights all the major bird species you might see in East Africa. It's laminated so easy to clean and small enough to tuck into my camera bag.

When you have no internet in the bush and can't use Merlin, this guide names all the birds you'll see.

I used this as a handy guide during a recent safari in Tanzania. This does not replace a detailed guidebook, but was a nice, lightweight, waterproof reference for many of the birds we saw.

I just ordered this in anticipation of a safari to Kenya and Tanzania in June. It is just what I wanted. I love how light and compact it is and how durable it is -- given that it is lamented. I also find it very informative. This is the perfect pocket guide for a trip to East Africa. Highly recommend.

This will be very helpful in the field!

This is light, compact, and groups the birds in a very logical way, making it easy to find what you are looking at. The problem is that what you are looking at isn't always there. Some of the most common birds of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, like red-billed oxpeckers, social weavers, and various shrikes and starlings were not listed. East Africa is so very rich with exotic birds that a more extensive field guide is definitely necessary. This is good to decide before the trip what you would like to see so you can ask your tour guide.

I took this pocket guide with me for our trip to Tanzania. I also bought the Birds of East Africa guide but being that we were limited to 33 pounds due to bush plane restrictions, I was unable to pack it as the book was very large and heavy. That’s where the pocket guide came in handy. I put it in my day pack and used it to identify almost all of the common birds. Luckily our first guide was bird knowledgeable so he could identify the less common birds. I wrote the names down and when we came home I marked the birds we saw in the big book. Before we left Tanzania, I gave the pocket guide to our second guide who wasn’t quite as bird knowledgeable as our first one.
