Perfect for replacing a chandellier with a ceiling fan.
Last year I took down a chandelier and replaced it with a ceiling fan. I should have replaced the mounting bracket but it was hard to deal with it through the 4" opening so I just used the existing box. I could never get the fan to mount flush with the ceiling and it always wobbled when on high speed. "There must be some better way to make this work," I thought. Finally I discovered the Saf-T-Brace, ordered it with Amazon Prime, received it a couple of days later and was ready to redo my previous patch job. The hard part was getting the old mounting bracket out of the way. It used thin enough metal that I was able to nibble through it with side cutters and then bend it out of the way, after removing the junction box.. Somewhat difficult working through that little hole, but not terrible. Then came the easy part: I extended the Saf-T-Brace to about 22", stuck it through the hole, positioned it over the opening and twisted the bar to extend it until it was tightly jammed into the ceiling joists. It was really solid! Though I didn't try it, I'm sure I could have done a one handed chin-up from it without a problem, were I strong enough. Next I slipped the holding bracket over the bar then opened one of the cable feed-throughs in the supplied new box, inserted the plastic cable clamp and slipped my wires through. The handy little magnet piece made it easy to get the included box fastened on -- and I was good to go. Back up the ladder to rehang the fan and now it is tight against the ceiling without a trace of movement when running. The Saf-T-Brace is a well made sturdy product, that installed easily, worked as specified and I'm very pleased with it.

My go to for old lamp boxes when swapping to fans
I've used other types of fan hangers and prefer these for their design. Even when the old lamp hole is smack dab next to a joist they are greatly adaptable. Strong and easy to use, never had one fail. The cleats that penetrate The framing are aggressive for good bite.

Work well and so far is performing
This was easy to install and held up well the magnet to come off so you have to be careful when installing it. The main problem with this is the plastic tabs if you drop it or hit it too hard, the tabs will break and so it makes it more complicated to install.

Great for mounting a ceiling fan between joists.
Worked great to mount my ceiling fan. High quality, no wobble. I was able to get the brace through a 4" hole and reassemble in the ceiling without additional drywall damage or work.

This Can Save You From A Crawl Through The Attic
Say you have a standard light fixture in the ceiling and you want to replace it with a ceiling fan with a light kit. Ceiling fans are heavy. A lot heavier than just a typical light fixture. If you try to attach a ceiling fan to that existing light fixture mounting, it could wobble and fall as the fan spins. With this product, you remove the old light fixture and its mounting box. It is usually nailed to a ceiling joist that you pry off and pull out. Then, you reach up through that 4" hole and place this product between the joists and turn it with your hand to expand it. It bites into the joists and is very sturdy. After I got it hand-tight, I used an adjustable crescent wrench be sure it was tight. You then use the included gang box and secure it to the bar. You are then ready to follow the instructions that came with your ceiling fan. I suggest you get a ceiling fan that has a remote control. Then you don't have to deal with pulling chains or running separate wires for switches to control the lights and fan. In other words, you may and the light on and the fan off or vice-versa.

Ceiling fan brace.
We needed an upgraded brace to hang our ceiling fan, and this was very easy to use. The pieces are study and we did not have to climb into the sweltering attic to install it. I definitely would recommended this product.
