I was initially shown You-tube videos of someone holding these while the sound they make was used to cover well known songs such as Africa. However, the person shooting the videos never showed a hand touching the strip that actually tells the speaker to create the sound. He made it look easy, when the truth is something far different.Its still a neat toy, and for the price rather good value. But don't expect to be able to pick it up and immediately be able to entertain the masses, unless they are going to be laughing at your ineptitude.But that doesn't diminish my enjoyment. I give it 4 stars.

I got these for my niece (10) and nephew (6) for Christmas. While they had such a confused reaction when they first opened it up, as soon as I put in the batteries and showed them how it worked they went insane.All the instructions are in Japanese so it is confusing to give as a gift if you won't be there to show someone what it is, but it was so much fun watching them make up songs and annoy their parents with it. 10/10 recommend!!Also, fyi you need to turn it off between uses. My niece would leave hers on and it would make the "Med." octave stop working. We would have to leave it off for a while to kick it back on.

The pink one was a bit "weird" right out of the box, but now doesn't work at all. Had gone through with strange sounds right off the bat, but then started working properly for a couple of days, then, all of a sudden stopped working entirely, and then started working a day later with "off" sounds. Tried to replace the batteries and now it doesn't work at all, besides getting a strange blip when moving the lo/mid/hi switch.

I ordered a pink and a blue otomatone. The blue works perfect, but occasionally the pink doesn't. It's an intermittent issue, but it doesn't make it any less fun. So much joy and fun has been had! They both came with "sheet music" for Happy Birthday too.

They're a christmas gift so haven't played with them yet but they seem sturdy and well made. 4 stars instead if 5 because these things are one of the most annoying sounds ever created. 🤣

The Otamatones work great, the kids love them and it is an educational toy. It teaches them to listen and try to duplicate sounds.
