Bonsai Outlet Premium Bonsai Soil - Tinyroots 2.25 Quart Soil Blend for Finished Bonsai, Ideal for Water Retention and Root Development, Made from Genuine Akadama, Red Lava Rock and Pumice

I received this shipment from Amazon, sold by Bonsai Outlet and commenced to repot a little juniper I bought at the Chicago Botanical Garden spring bonsai show. I took a workshop aimed at design of nursery stock juniper. Mine happened to be the winner of the workshop judging so I wanted to get it established in a nicer training pot. I bought this soil and repotted yesterday. The soil is nicely uniform with a perfect mix for conifers. It won’t compact which ensures great drainage which is critical with juniper. Pumice, slate, lava rock, and horticultural charcoal…very satisfied. Highly recommend if you are working with conifers (juniper, black pine, white pine, larch, cedar, etc.)

I really like the content and grain size of this soil. It stays put, stays moist enough but not wet and integrates with the plant roots very well. I’ve used more coarse soil and have issues with it staying in place especially in smaller pots with smaller plants. It contains Lava, pumice and akadama. No orchid bark and other junk that holds excess moisture of impedes even root growth. Root growth season is almost upon us and we’ll see how prolific the growth is with this soil vs a more coarse soil.

Happy with product no complaints. Repotted my Fukien tea tree. Didn’t experience any leaf dropping or loss. My tree immediately took to the soil. The soil is like rock pebbles, which made me hesitant at first. I didn’t remove all of the original soil the tree was in which was your typical indoor plant soil. I did see in one of the other reviews to add Bosnia fertilizer to the soil since it’s inorganic. Which I did. The tree has been planted for two months and begin to sprout flowers this week. Maybe u can see them in the pic. I don’t plan to use this soil for my ficus and juniper bonsai. I plan on trying some of the organic soil from this store. Hope this review helps 😊

After repotting our bonsai trees in this soil, they are all doing great. The soil drains well and looks like it will not compact. The components (akadama, pumice and lava) are what I see recommended by many bonsai experts. There is less dust and grit in the Tiny Roots soil than in other mixtures I have bought with these components. Plus, it looks great. The only downside is that it is expensive.

This was perfect for me since I am brand new to growing Bonsai trees.
